Hi fellas,
I have my BX22 listed in the classifieds. I have had a few inquiries but lower offers than I would expect. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Here is the following classified. Am I asking too much? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif These machines are very hard to come by. Thanks for your time.

2003 BX22 has only 83 hours on it, comes with turf tires and an extra set of bar tires mounted on rims that have never been used!, 2 hooks welded on FEL bucket, ATI heavy duty removable tooth bar, TinyTach tachometer, 4 way valve on FEL, 12" backhoe bucket, have spare fuel filters and air filter, getting bigger machine!, only 5 months old, machine is in excellent condition, can make arrangements for delivery in the new england area! Asking $15,000 or B/O

I was talking to a parts guy at a different dealership than I usually go to. Mentioned that I was going to trade in my 60" Woods RFM and I was going to take a hit doing so.

He said with tractors and implements you take about a 30% loss if you trade/sell in the first year.

I got $1,200 [real dollars] on a trade . Paid about $1,800 last summer. THe dealer gave me the figure in advance, because I asked about trading either towards a MMM for my B2910 or towards a BX2200...

Anyway, if you sell privately you may not lose that much.

Not really sure what your bx should go for, but last year I could have got one with a MMM for $16,200. Demand is up this year with the zero percent financing. But that will hurt you because you can't offer that...

If you don't have a MMM with your bx22, I would say your price is too high. Probably too high in any case as you can't offer the zero percent financing, which is worth some bucks, even at the current low interest rates...

I was quoted $16,000 for a new BX22 last weekend without a MMM or toothbar.

30% depreciation in the first year, ouch. I thought tractors held their value better than that, but I haven't been looking at prices very long.

I don't buy the 30% figure, at least out here in Oregon. If I saw 30% I would have ended up with a used one. I shopped and shopped for used machines that were less than 3 years old and the price of them ALWAYS reflected depreciation of less than 10%/year unless it was really beat up. I figured at that rate I might as well buy new, get a warranty, and take advantage of the 0% financing.

The depreciation is probably more on implements though.

I could be wrong on that 30% for tractors...maybe I heard the guy wrong...believe it is probably right for the implements...on average anyway.

What would the right percentage loss be on average on a new tractor sold during the first year? Anybody know with pretty good certainty?

I know Autos and trucks take a pretty big hit the moment you drive them off the lot...

30% does sound high...in the end it is what ever you can sell it for.

Question for the original poster: Did you ask your dealer what he would buy you tractor for outright? That would at least give you a baseline from which to work....Maybe that 30% was what the dealer would expect to pay for a tractor before he marked it up for resale...

Bill, I don't know for certain what the percentages are. I read somewhere (Muhammad's book?) that typically they lose around 10% the first year and 7-8% in subsequent years. That seems about right from the shopping I've done, but it probably varies from area to area.

BotaBrian--well it is a yes and know. Yes it they are at every dealer in town; but, no if you are like me. No dealer has them and they ARE going for more then what that usually go for. I was offered $17,000 for mine (used last week) and I said no. All the dealers have to wait till fall to get more.

So get the most you can for it since they are hard to come by (at least up here in the NorthEast)

My local Kubota dealer sells the new bx22 for $14995. It seems to me that your price is too high. Extra tires are about $300, $200 for toothbar, etc. If figure the cheap financing (2.9% for 60 months, v. say 7%) would save about $1800. Personally, I'd think you'd be doing well to get about $13000. I know that hurts, but it's never easy to trade in early.

Again, try to EVEN find one at that price, you can't. I would think around 15.500 is good game. But that is me since I know where they can find one. I know 2 dealers that CAN"T get them till fall and the others that have them want $17.999..

Someone here once gave the following comment regarding a pond VS a lake.

"If you are selling it is a lake. If you are buying it is a pond..."

Same with tractors or anything else we are selling/buying. Fall is not that far away...but...if you are selling...go for the most you can get. Drop your price later when the supply comes back up, demand and price drop.

I forget who said it, but "there is a sucker born everyday."

Maybe you will get lucky and a guy like me will come along... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Best of luck to the original poster... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Now IS the time to be selling...
