Problem With New Yanmar??

Now wait a minute, several guys said they thought it would overheat with the 5' cutter on and it did. Several also said it probably wouldn't overheat wth the 4' cutter, and it didn't. So I'm a little confused as to why you're at your wits end? Sounds to me like you found the problem, the 5 ft cutter........I think your tractor is fine............

I'm confused.... Wouldn't a remanufactured tractor already have the radiator and engine block flushed sometime during the reman process ?

I don't believe the 1700 comes with a water pump. About a $300 add-on I think- Check with Aaron at Hoye.

70-30 is the suggested water/anti-freeze mix I believe.

Use an antifreeze specific to diesels.

As for finish mowers, you should be able to handle a 5'.

A stovetop test with plain water isn't hot enough. The sensor grounds the input wire (light comes on) at about 235 while water will disappear as steam at 212.

If you want to try a stovetop test, use a blend of water and antifreeze and use a cooking thermometer to determine the temperature where the switch closes.

Good point, will antifreeze raise the boiling point that far? Maybe salt? I was thinking that the light would come on closer to 200deg, 235 is pretty hot in my mind, but again, I really dont know the correct temp.

Of course the water boiled out. An unpressurized system will expand and boil at a lot less temp than a normally pressurized cooling system.

The water still must reach 212 degrees to boil, which is already too hot, unless it is boiling for another reason, such as a bad head gasket.

I don't think it is running Hot.He check it with the radiator cap half off. you can not do that,He has a YM2000 it has a water pump on it.My YM1700 dose not and i can run a 5 foot all day in 98 temperature. And a lot of you on here that has a YM2000 will have a 5 foot cutter.He needs to wait on the sending unit and see if that will fix it .

That's where I saw the sensor stovetop test I described above. I don't have that book with me at the moment. Can somebody confirm 235 degrees for the warning light?

I could run a light weight 5 footer with my 1700...Just had to watch the front end...

Everything said here is correct...Check sending unit...Get guages...Clean and flush radiator...Run a 50/50 mix...

I added a water pump to my 1700...With a 14 psi cap my temps were in the 215 to 230 range...Perfectly acceptable...Those idiot lights are designed to come on at 235...She will boil over at around 248 with a 14 psi cap...

Get guages and replace the sending unit...

Where are you getting that information from. I have never even heard of any such thing. Antifreeze is antifreeze, diesel or gas.
