Problem With New Yanmar??

• FULLY RECONDITIONED RIGHT HERE IN THE U.S.A.

One would imagine that a clean radiator would be part of the reconditioning process. My 2000B would run close to hot with a bush hog on back until I pulled the radiator and had it professionaly cleaned. Cost about $50. But then, I was cutting 10' tall wild plum thickets.

On a YM2000, anything over 180 is overheating under any circumstances. Mine, and several others on these forums never get over 160, in any weather, speed, or load conditions, unless the rad gets plugged with chaff. If it were mine I would keep cleaning the radiator until the water runs clear, or take it to a radiator shop. (How's your radiator cap?)

You need to forget that it seems to run cooler at lower rpms. You don't run them that way, like Brent says you run it at the little line on the tack around 2200 rpms, that is the speed it is suppose to run at, not some rpm you think is working better. And keep the pto lever in the #1 setting. Also I noticed you said you lifted it up, where it skids were not touching. They are not suppose to touch, unless on rough ground, sometimes, that would make the tractor work a lot harder, dragging it. Which would make it run hotter. But again, this should not be your problem, rco is the one that said it was in good shape to work, so they are the ones that should fix it, if you are doing the things right on your end.

I AGREE.............

Stuart called me yesterday and left a message.........I didn't get the message til today....................I am fixing to call him back............The little "white" line on my tractor's rpm gauge is about 2400rpms @ 540.............

I just go off of it with my 5' cutter...........I used it for a good while cutting grass............It ran at 189-190 degrees and NEVER went over 190. I was running it at about 2200 rpms...............I flushed the radiator this morning and put the 50/50 mix back in it.......Then I started cutting grass..........

From what everyone is saying, I now fully believe I have an overheating problem..................How does everyone think RCO should go about fixing it?

Norm, are you absolutely sure about that 180F figure for an overheat limit? Most thermostatically controlled cooling systems for IC engines don't even begin to circulate coolant until above 180F. (I'm not saying the YM2000 system is thermostatically controlled - I don't know whether it is or not.)

I believe that I'd be more concerned that an engine with coolant temps in the 160F range was running too cold than I would be that a 180F temp was too hot.

I'm not aware of any overheat limit, but that's the temp that a YM2000B seems to run with a good cooling system, no thermostat. If you want it hotter you can always block the radiator.

travis,

few things--- first, don't quite yet throw rco under the bus about communication- it is, afterall, a holiday weekend, right? Give the guys a chance... with that said, secondly, *you* need to decide what *you* want to see them do to resolve the problem, no one else here, it's your tractor. Tell them what you want to see happen to get this corrected. In my case, I told John what I wanted, he/RCO pulled through for me, in a major way (shipped 'nother tractor to me...).

Thirdly, do you know, or have access to, a local diesel mechanic? If not, have you asked to talk to one of RCO's mechanics? I think that talking with someone while working with the tractor will go a long way...

In the meantime, while waiting to hear back from them, you should probably not run the tractor, use your Mahindra instead. Decide what it is you would like to see done to resolve the problem, then discuss with the dealer.

Everyone here has given great advice, from too large an implement, to not running WOT, etc.

It's a good time to stop, do some methodical troubleshooting, talk to a mechanic, etc.

Stick with it, you'll resolve this gremlin and all should be well with the tractor!!

OK FELLAS,

THANKS FOR ALL OF THE REPLIES AND SUPPORT........I TRULY, TRULY APPRECIATE IT............

I just got off of the phone with Stuart with RCO Tractor................He said everything is fine...........BUT THE 5' BUSH HOG IS TOO MUCH FOR THE TRACTOR, AND I DO AGREE.......As long as the tractor don't run over 200 degrees, everything is fine.........I must take the 5' bush hog off before I burn something up.......I can only run a 4' brush cutter...............I can run a 5' finish mower, but not a 5' brush cutter............He said that a 6' finish mower is too big for it too........So, when I buy one, it will be a 5 footer...............

Like I said earlier.............When I get the finish mower on my tractor, It will probably NEVER be taken off........Unless something needs servicing.

Well, I gotta go......I want some seat time!.............I think it had 8.4 hours on it when they dropped it off at my house................It now has 18.5 hrs on the meter................By the end of today, it will have a lot more........

Again, thanks for the replies and support............I am PROUD TO BE A YANMAR OWNER!!

I think they deserve some credit for being available after noon on a Saturday, on Labor Day weekend, to speak with a customer.

Well, I personally think you do have some heating problem, and I think he does to. It should be able to run a 6 foot finish mower, and because he also thinks you have a heating problem, he is saying to go with a 5. A good salesman can make you believe things that aren't always completely true, and I think this is one of those times. He can save a lot of money if he can make you believe it is right. There is people running a 6 foot one, with a 1700, and it don't have a water pump, and they aren't having a heating problem. You better think about it, as when the guarantee period is up, you have nothing to do then, it will be to late.
