Anyone get filled up recently and know what current prices are.

It is looking like I should fill up my 500gal tank before winter. I have been putting it off. Central Ohio pricing would be great. But feel free to let me know wherever you live.

I use minimal propane. I have been through 5 winters since last fill-up and am currently setting on ~ 15%. Since they only fill them to 80% that is 400 gallons. 15% puts me currently @ 75 gallons. (400-75)/5 says I only have averaged 65 gallons per winter, but it is cutting it close and I would perfer to fill up if price isnt too bad right now.

Paid $2.04/ gallon in central Illinois today. That is cash price. $.10 / gallon higher on credit.

I could live with that if it is that low here.

The place I HAVE to buy from (I dont own my tank) is farmers coop in marion OH, and that usually have the best price by $0.10/gal or better.

Last I filled up in 2006 it was $1.85, while others I talked to were paying around $2.00. And then the following year or two I heard it was north of $3.00/gal

LD1, get ahold of Thrifty Propane. We have a 1000gal tank and heat with wood pellets so we don't have to buy that often. I don't know what your contract situation is with your tank but I think you can rent tanks from Thrifty also. We haven't bought any since last year but I remember they where cheaper than every else around Logan County.
edit: thriftypropane.com their website says they offer free tanks.

I filled up Monday this week. for $2.10 / gallon cash price.I own a 500 gallon tank and my propane supplier has the best price in my area. I am in S. Illinois about 70 miles due East of St. Louis. Since the weather has cooled down, he says everyone is filling their tanks and he has gone through several semi loads recently. He says the price will be going up.

2.29 here. Cannot help but think it will fall back a bit though, at least I hope.
It was 1.69 last winter. Ouch.

Wow, I'm looking at 2.59
Ouch!

LD I filled up from firelands about 3 weeks back, I think it was 2.59/gall on my rented 500 gallon tank & took almost 900 bucks due to the BS taxes they charged me Huron county tax (I live in Ashland county) and they moved there HQ away from ashland. Like you renting is a poor choice for me as I only fill it up every 3rd year as well. Been thinking about buying 1 or 2 of the 100 gallon tanks which are pretty good price and then shopping for Propane when time comes... I could even transport them to the fill station and get it cheaper yet.

Usually you get a price break at 300 and again at 600 gallons if you own your own tank. That may be the key to lower prices as you can shop around. Also if you fill up around the end of July prices are usually the lowest then. I paid $1.65 for 300 gallons + at that time.

2.26/gal here when I filled two weeks ago, it is a rental tank so they add .10/gal for 'insurance'

And I only have a 120 gallon tank, so I don't think I get the best price.

I dont own the tank. It was here When I purchased the house back in 2005. Only had enough to put 150 gallons in it at that time to get me through the 05-06 winter. Used almost all of it until I lowered the setting on my heatpump from 38 down to ~17 to conserve propane.

I Had it filled that summer of 2006. No mention whatsoever about a tank lease or anything. I have also NEVER gotten a bill for a yearly lease in the mail:confused2: So I was thinking there was a possibility that the tank was not leased??

I called earler this summer just to inquire. They said it IS a leased tank, but again, no mention about oweing any money for a lease?? So we shall see when I get it filled.

Maybe, Just maybe they dont charge a lease? Maybe they make their money on the sales of propane itself?? Sound possible or do you all think I am in for a rude awakening???

IF it comes down to me owing a lease, I will probabally just buy a tank and tell them to come and pick theirs up. Or I will consider metered propane from the local electric company as an option. But hopefully, I just have to pay for propane and thats it:thumbsup:

I paid $2.13/gal last week.. Does anybody else do the prepay thing. I usually try and go to my dealer in the August time frame and pre-purchase about 900 gal when the price is low.

$2.13 /Gal ! I should load my 100Gal/420# tank in the truck and bring it over! My last fill up was $4.99 /Gal !!! Plus I get to pay them $30 bucks a year to store their tank ! I called and got the price down a bit, guess if I used more I would get a lower rate,I only have the stove on it. Thought about a tankless hot water heater but not too impressed with the LP price here !

This is my first year as I just got a 120 gal tank about a month ago. I did the pre-pay and bought 250 gallons for the season. We'll see how that goes. If you don't use it all then they cash you out in the Spring, so I figure you can't lose by doing it. And if the price goes down this winter (NOT likely), they will honor the lower price. Sounds like a win-win.

As I said in my earlier post, I paid $2.10/gallon cash price last week. My buddy dropped by for a visit today. He works for a propane company that is currently charging about $3.00/gallon. My buddy's full time job is picking up leased tanks from customers who are looking for better deals on their gas. I asked him if he sees a lot of pi$$ed off people. He said, "Oh man, you have no idea!" He tells them he agrees with them and that he is a local guy doing a job and it is the folks out East that are running the company into the ground with their pricing and treatment of customers. He doesn't even buy his own gas from his employer.

I'm located in central Indiana. Up until last year I was with one of the nations largest supplier till I started to shop around and found that they were the most expensive in my area. What I hate is they all do the huge discount price to get you to switch and then jack it up on the next fill up. Reminds me of a drug dealer.
