I have two styles of PTO connections on my various 3 point equipment. (1) I have the spring-loaded, side push-pin type and (2) The air coupling style with a circular ring to pull back and slip onto / off the shaft.

I MUCH prefer the style #1 push-pin. Easy to do. Seems I need a third hand for the other style.....and most often I need to get my foot (or my wife) to push the coupling onto the PTO stub because it takes two hands to pull the retainer collar back....and/or....it requires a few "choice" words to get hooked up.

Anyone have a helpful method to hook up this "air-coupling" style joint?

I also have both types of locking devices (as you described).
To make it easier, I uses a bungee cord attached to a convenient spot on the implement's frame to support the weight of the PTO drive shaft.
Give it a try...you'll find it does make it easier.
