That could cause some expensive legal problems down the road as heating oil doesn't have the road taxes levied on it, and has the dye in it to stain your filters so the feds can identify folks avoiding the taxes.

From a practical point of view, I'd have to agree with your decision to do so 100%. It's all diesel fuel, and the furnace isn't any good without electricity to run the burner and pumps.

Of course, unlike any of the Feds and many State folks, I consider tractors to be mobile power sources, and not vehicles.

in florida when it gets bad, the state lets you do this and run dyed diesel on the road, and then send inthe taxes, many times diesel was hard to find.. the clear stuff anyway.

people were draining tractor tanks for weeks to get around.

I believe he was using the home heating oil to run his tractor/PTO generator.
No need to pay road use tax.

If the tractor is not driven extensively on the road, there shouldn't be any issues with using offroad fuel. Farmers do it in their tractors all of the time.

Howdy,
You have them mixed up.

Off-road diesel fuel = dyed red because road taxes are NOT paid on it.

Fuel oil = home heating fuel dyed red, but taxes paid. Not road taxes, but it was still taxed. This is the fuel he siphoned out and used. A lot of times it might be exactly the same, and sometimes it has a less lubricity and detergents than motor type fuel. Somes times a delivery truck will fill your off-road farm tank, and go over and fill a home heating oil tank from the same container. But, the home heating oil is taxed.

IRS tax man = you do not mess with the tax man. The same thing when you only run taxed clear diesel in your tractors and such. You add it up, and apply for a rebate of the road taxes of fuel purchased. Yes, it is a lot easier to have your own tank and buy off-road diesel (ULSD <15ppm)dyed red to run machinery.

Ever since they went to low sulfur diesel fuel, I have been running a 100:1 mix of 2-cycle oil in my tractor. I also give it a shot of injector cleaner every 40 or 50 hours.

Howdy,
Same here. Every time they fill the bulk tank, I put in something. (Diesel service white, or silver) depending on the time of year.

I just put PS in my truck with the last fill up, and lost 10% on mileage :confused2:

This is the newest one out in the silver (I think) bottle, I even called the company to talk to an engineer there to make sure it would not harm my diesel particulate filter.

He assured me it wouldn't and that it would boost cetane, power and MPGs.
Right away I thought it sounded a little better/smoother but the mpgs started dropping. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they changed over to winter diesel at the pump, that's why the mpgs went down?

Off road is on road with red dye and no tax.
HHO is on road with red dye and no tax.
Here is my tank .

No need to run 2-cycle oil because sulfur never was a lubricant anyway.

1*We could not get fuel for several days so fuel oil was siphoned from the furnace.
1* That's what I'd use in my tractors too if I were you cause it is it the same thing as diesel .

1* Fuel oil siphoned from the furnace could cause some expensive legal problems down the road as
2* heating oil doesn't have the road taxes levied on it, 3*and has the dye in it to stain your filters so the feds can identify folks avoiding the taxes.
Of course, unlike any of the Feds and many State folks,
4*I consider tractors to be mobile power sources, and not vehicles.
1*No it can't if used off road.
2*That's cause there is no highway taxes on it because it's used off road .
Makes sense to me seeing as how you can't drive a house down the road. :)
3*The poster wasn't avoiding any taxes cause none were due.
4*Don't make any difference as the fuel isn't used on the road.
