Questions On Switching To Rotella Synthetic

Tom, another thought is my 2210 only takes 2 qts, lol, So why not use the best oil available. For my tractor we are only talkin a couple of bucks more. I will probably change my oil and filter every 50 hours as thats about all I use it in a year. Dave

Do not extend the drain interval. Change the filter each time. Synthetics are great but tractors live in a dirty, dusty world and no airfilter is perfect. Get clean, fresh oil in there at least every 100 hours. If it is cold, really cold a block heater would be nice. J

Tom,

Since you are going to keep your tractor for along time you
might also want to get an oil analysis done. I use a company
called Blackstone Labs. I can't find a URL at the moment
though. It costs me around $20 for a test. I did not know
about these things when I got my tractor but I did do a test
earlier this year when I did an oil change. I test my F350
fairly regularly.

You might want to run the tests on your first couple of oil
changes to establish a benchmark and then test every so often.

There might be a local company that will do the tests. I just
use Blackstone since it was used and liked by the members of
TheDieselStop website.

FYI,

I went to look for Mobil Delvac Synthetic 15W-40 and could not find it in the 15 stores I visted. Best I could find was Mobil Delvac 5W-40. Do you think this will work? Kubota calls for 10W-30, 10W-40, I have been using 15-40 Rotella.

Here is what Kubota said regarding the folowing question:
Can I use synthetic 5W-40 oil in my tractor I have 150 hours on the unit? If not, can I use 15w-40 oil?

( Thank you for contacting Kubota. Kubota has not tested and approved synthetic oils for their products. However, we have many current users who have had no problems. The automotive and truck industries are now moving almost entirely to synthetics. If this is your choice, choose a good manufacturer or distributor who can make an intelligent recommendation based on the use of your compact diesel engine. Your warranty will not be affected unless damage or failure results directly from the use of the chosen fluid. In these cases, the oil vendor should be held responsible for repair costs, not Kubota. Choose a vendor who will stand behind their product and there should be no problem. Again, thanks for contacting Kubota.)

I guess I will use Mobil 1 10W-30 since it is CF rated for diesel engines, what do you think? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I got the same answer a couple of days ago. I think that they are fielding the same questions from a lot of people......

I use the Rotella-T synthetic (5W-40) in my Dodge truck (with 24v turbo Cummins). I drain it about every 5K miles. I don't know about other benefits, but the truck sure starts better in cold weather with this oil compared to the conventional 15W-40.

That “cookie cutter” response is almost the same thing I got from FORD about 5 years ago. Nothing new. Any manufacture can’t deny the warranty using synthetic unless the oil causes the failure. They will just do an oil analysis and go from there. Still use 100% synthetic 15w-40 in my BX22.

But that is a typical response..
