I know our wonderful moderator could not out-operate me on a backhoe, (especially mine) or probably any tractor for that matter, except his little itty bitty tractor. I would not be so arrogant as to say that I could out-operate him on a machine he has a lot of hours on.

Is this kind of stuff really necessary? People use this website to learn things about tractor related stuff. Check your ego at the door. The reason for this type of attitude is usually pretty obvious to most people.

I will add my $.02 for good measure. As a younger man before I got my first airline job I used to teach people how to fly. I was good at it in my opinion and the opinion of the Indy FAA office where all my applicants took check rides. I was able to teach 27 people through getting a pilots license in 1 year and have about 45 in the 4 years without a single failure. All passed on the first try.

Anyway. I could tell in the first 5 minutes of the first flight if they were going to be able to do it. Most white collar workers had a harder time then blue collar workers. I could teach a 15 year old kid twice as quickly as a 35 year old backhoe operator. I contribute this to video games and good hand eye coordination. Does this make them a better pilot? Not sure but they sure learn quick and retain well. The backhoe operator did learn the systems like hydraulics quicker. Tried to teach a few doctors and none made it past 10 lessons but one dentist was able to earn a license. All in all WOMEN made good pilots. Sorry guys. They pay attention to detail and are very precise in what they do.

My point is some people learn much quicker because of experience. I do not claim to be a heavy equipment operator but I have ran a drag line, dozer, many tractors, boats, airplanes, fork lifts, ect. I just have a knack for machinery like most on here. That does not mean everyone does but can complete the same task just taking 3-4 times as long.

I don't have an ego to check at the door. I'm offended at arrogant people who think they can learn a job in "a couple hours".

I'm sure they'd be madder than a wet hen if I said I could shuffle their pile of papers or sell crap on the phone as fast as them, too.

Look at D_piltot's post. It brings "pilots" up. Would you rather be flown somewhere by a rookie pilot or someone with 10K hours? Don't tell me seat time means NOTHING in operating machinery. It ain't no different.

I've been on more jobs than I care to remember where an inexperienced driver or operator hit something very expensive to repair. Hardly ever happens with the experienced guys..... Remember Captain Sully? How he landed the airplane in the Hudson? Experienced operator. Now how about the 2 kids that crashed the commuter plane in Buffalo? Inexperienced.

hmmm, see a pattern emerging here?

Based on his statements, I'm quite certain that 'Bilder' strongly believes that the little blue haired old ladies running 15 miles per hour in the left lane of an interstate are the best drivers on the road. After all, they do have the most experience in their cars. Hold the phone, I'm calling Hendrick to tell them that their new young drivers coming up quickly through the ranks need to season a decade or two. Clearly logic and human nature is lost on some people. All you guys with less than a few thousand hours on your tractors better stay at least 100' from your homes or you'll surely destroy them.

Well, I thought this thread would have died by now. And since some folks cannot stop bringing up my moderator duties (like that has anything to do with anything in this discussion) and still will not acknowledge the fact that I AGREED WITH HIM THAT ALL TIRE TYPES HAVE THEIR PLACE I will now bring my moderator functions into the discussion and close this thread. How's that for operator experience! It only took me a couple months to realize this thread should have been closed a long time ago while a more experienced operator would have killed it on day one.
