I lived in Rockford until 1997 and the address that they list is for Youngberg Industries and seems like they have been in Rockford forever.
They did sell Industral supplies and also they had Youngberg welding. They have a real good name in rockford, I did know one of them but can't remember his name right now.

I have the 16 ton ramsplitter with the 2hp electric motor. It rivals my neighbor's 8hp Honda, actually splits knarly grey birch easier than his. It is roughly 3/4 size of the big gas powered models and because of this is easier to move around and takes less space to store. I split 4-5 cord per year. No gas, no fumes, no noise. I purchased a 100 foot 12/3 commercial grade extension cord from HD so I can use it around the woodshed. Love it and my brother is buying one after seeing this one work. Build quality is excellent and the price was hard to beat, delivery included for around $800. nfi just a satisfied customer. All parts are available from Northern if I ever need them.

Hi Friz,

I am an authorized dealer for Ram Splitters. Hands down the best splitter for the money. If your looking into the electric models these will rival any gas motor with ease. We guarantee your satisfaction or we will replace your electric motor with a gas motor. Also the beam quality is second to none, they use rectangular tube beams instead of I or H beams and the strength comes to about 3 times stronger then a regular I beam.

Sorry dont want to sound like a commercial but they truly are great products.

Thanks, Mike

I purchased a 3PTH Splitter from Doug - of Ramsplitter in 2006 for my B21 TLB and had them add a Y stand on the splitting end and two legs bolted onto the 2 3PT pins so its a "standalone" setup with 15' long hoses that connect into my BH disconnects. I leave the BH connected (I pin it up) and carry the spliitter on the front bucket.

I have a bucket hook on my tractor and a loop around the top link on the splitter and pick the whole thing up and transport to the splitting area and go to work then lift it up and put it away when done. It takes me about 3 min to hook up/remove - very easy setup.

THe B21 is rated @ 11GPM flow and I run the tractor at 13-1500 RPM and its not fast but it works at "my speed". They also added the exit chute/tray and I got the slip on 4 way splitting head but I dont use the 4 way head anymore as it takes too much pressure to work properly and I can do it as fast w/o.

Overall I am happy with the build quality and Doug's willingness to customize to what I wanted with the legs/stand and longer hoses etc.

I purchased the three horse power electric model back in February of this year. The pump or possibly a combination of components causes a very loud high pitch noise which requires ear protection. Doug (company owner) says it is due to the higher RPM of the three horse power model and the pump is making the screaming noise. Doug says he will send me a quiet pump. Doug has said this for months now. I call Ramsplitter about every two weeks and Doug says he will send a new pump each time I call but it never happens.

I have a PTO Hyd Pump powered 3Pt Ram Splitter on order....

Same problem... seems that Ram is having difficulty getting Hydro Pumps all arround.

I've been waiting for a month now. They keep saying It's coming in "Tomorrow" and we will ship same day.....

Time will tell, but they did take my $$ way back last month.

I bought the 3pt 16 ton ram splitter with prince pump and can not be any happier. I chose the 3pt over a stand alone because of the fuel economy i get out of the bx compared to a honda 5hp. Doug and his wife were also very easy to deal with, if i ever had to get another one I WILL get one from them.

I talked to Doug again this morning and we are hoping they get in on time today via Fedex before the deadline of the truck can pick up the splitters. They are on pallets ready to go just need to put on the pumps and they will be on the way.

I know its frustrating to have to wait. Trust me I take the brunt of the frustrated customers, so it frustrates me to :) . If you ordered from us at anytime we will refund you if don't want to wait anymore as long as it hasn't shipped out yet. Look at the bright side the snow isn't flying yet. ;)

Yup, just anxious to get the pile of logs done and stacked before the winter hit's....:D

But I looked arround and as others have said, Ram Splitters are the best out there currently going for 3pt's. It's an ergonomic thing that I like. No standing over a wheel... or motor in the way... or too close to the rear wheels of the tractor... All good points so you don't have split loggs poping you in the shin or landing on your toe...

I'm just waiting. Like a kid looking forward to a birthday... and not quite understanding why it's not "That day" yet.... he he he:p:p:D

Cheers Mike :D

Just an Update!

IT ARRIVED YESTERDAY!! WOOOT! Ok so I went to the loading dock in town and picked it up rather than dealing with waiting for the "Delivery".... they would never find my place in an 18wheeler.... (Scared to drive the main road due to "Narrowness")

So they loaded it in the back of my truck and I offloaded it with a chain and some straps with my FEL.

I unpacked the unit, assebled the pump/hoses, had to make some adjustments to the tractor to facilitate the pump location (PTO shield in the way), install the chain (rotation lock to hold the pump in place) and fill the tank with Hydo fluid and check all the connections for tightness then prime the pump and system. BINGO ! Working order!

I split 3.5 cords of wood in a little over 4.5 hrs running it just above idle speed. I took a break for lunch and to go to take a load to the recycle place/dump, just to rest my back as loading 100+lb rounds is back breaking work... but not as much as Splitting all that wood!

Man I should have purchased this baby YEARS ago!!!! I love having my tractor and all these great labor saving atatchements that it supports.

PS Thanks Mike for all your help, patience and please thank Ramsplitter for an absolutly AWSOME Product!

Mine looks just like this (same orange) but the pump is Yellow not grey.

I have the 3 pt hydraulic 16 ton Ramsplitter myself and am extremely happy with its performance. Probably not as fast a a stand alone gas unit, but it is perfect for my pace and one less small engine to maintain. Paint color matched for my tractor and custom hoses from Doug. Very accomodating and easy to deal with. IMO a steal for the money.

Good luck.

I ordered the 3PT 16ton horizontal unit with PTO pump and 4-way wedge for my Kubota BX2230 in August 2009, for $1270. Having read the standalone vs. 3PT splitter debate, I settled on a 3PT unit due to its smaller footprint in my garage and one less engine to maintain. I went with the PTO pump due to slow cycle times posted by others on this forum.

The unit took longer to arrive than promised, almost 1 month, and shipped with some missing fittings. The delay was apparently due to the PTO pump, as another poster indicated. When I tried to install it, it didn't fit since the beam protruded too far into the tractor. I tried calling two times and didn't have my calls returned, so I took the unit to a welder and had it modified. The pins were moved out 9" towards the head of the beam.

That cost me an extra $150, and once it was installed and working I got a hold of Doug and asked for the modification expenses to be reimbursed. He figured out that I had mistakenly been shipped a 20ton unit, hence why it didn't fit the tractor. He was not keen on refunding me the $150 since he was already below cost on the 20ton unit. Having indicated that I did order a 16 ton unit since I thought it would meet my needs, I didn't push the matter any further.

In the end, I'm pleased with the splitter and may be benefiting from the increased capacity. It has split everything I have, included knotty 20-24" beech. Cycle time is around 10 seconds at low RPM, and the splitter goes on/off easily due to the length of the PTO pump hoses. It cost more than a standalone splitter would have, but it works better than a rental unit I've used before and takes less space when stored. I just wish that buying it and getting started would have been more straightforward.

It seems like about 5-7% of the time the PTO version splitters do not match up perfectly with some tractors with out some sort of modification having to be done, especially for the smaller tractors. I am glad to see you got your splitter up and running, great machines. BTW $1270 is a fantastic price for a 16-Ton PTO version. If you got a 20-Ton that is a steal even with having to pay $150 extra.

I purchased a Ramsplitter 3 pt. splitter on ebay March 23rd. I got an email from Doug right away that he wanted paypal, to know what color, and shipping information. I paid for the splitter, and replied with my shipping info and that I would like to know estimated delivery. Then I didn't hear anything else. So I sent an email that said that it seemed like an expensive purchase to get no communications on. He replied a few days later that he thought it would ship last wednesday. Until today I have heard nothing. I sent an email last Friday that I was wondering about delivery but have gotten no reply. I called today and got voicemail. Will have to wait and see how it shakes out.
