The person(s) responsible for the new and improved EPA fuel cans should have their own private h--l. They should be forced to spend the rest of eternity filling an endless line of equipment with their cans/spouts. I like the golf tee vent hole upgrade.

I agree

My curiosity got to me so I called DOT. The official color desination nation wide is

DRUUUUMMMMM ROOOLL! GREEN!

I don't know who or why someone came up with yellow containers but who ever it was they forgot to tell the man at the top. I asked them about it and they have no ideal!.

I believe your source was wrong. I have NEVER seen a green can of any sort. All my research leads me to believe that yellow is indeed the correct color.

Diesel Fuel Can Color? - Page 2 - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

California law says yellow too: http://www.arb.ca.gov/regact/pfc/2005/cp501.pdf

From this: Gulf Supply Co., Inc. — Fuel Containers
Eagle 5 Gallon Yellow Safety Diesel Can meets OSHA and NFPA Code 30 requirements and are UL and ULC listed and are FM Factory Mutual approved for the safe handling and storage of diesel fuel and other flammable liquids.

From my research NFPA and OSHA care about can colors, but not DOT. DOT cares about fuel caps, pump handles, etc.

Try this: Google for "Green Diesel can" (with the quotes) and see how many you find. I could not find any. My guess is that there is no such critter.

It would seem pretty strange that all the stores got the color wrong ... but then a whole bunch of "smart" people kept believing Bernie Madoff, too :)

Gas is red

A green fuel can in the woods? Reminds me of the green camouflage utility knives at Lowe's, I can't keep track of bright orange ones.

Diesel fuel pumps are green, the natural color of diesel. Diesel fuel cans are yellow. Construction equipment is yellow.

The C.A.R.B cans take more than twice as long to empty. Try fueling a T250 Bobcat every day. 44 gallons of glugging. The clown(s) who devised the cans do not use them. Wait till the spring loaded slide slips off the fill neck of the tank and pinches your fingers. It hurts every time. Machines with fill necks on the sides (T250 etc.)require steady pressure on the fuel spout.

When is an engineer going to make something/anything easier or more cost effective?:confused:Where did the Deere Con/Bit. booth get to?

The one truth is Gas is always red....

I actually store my diesel in Blue containers (kerosene) since half the year, its mostly K1 mix anyways. Yellow is referenced in the ATSM standard but I have also seen Green for diesel.

I just make sure to clearly label it just as I do my mixed fuel jugs. I put yellow taped stripes on any mixed gas for two cycle.

It seems like gasoline is the only one that is followed with religious zeal!

This is where I got my info. Home | U.S. Department of Transportation I called the hot line and the man referred me to his supervisor who said that Green is the official color designator for diesel. Who can you trust if you can't trust your GOVERNMENT!!!! LOL:laughing:. I am just getting ready to paint a new fuel system that will be transported over dot controlled roads during hay season and want to make sure I am within the law; I am not disagreeing with you but just reporting what I have found out! I will do more research and in fact I will be able to ask several guys this week end that should know cause I will be cooking for one of Washington痴 DOT interoffice function! The state patrol and the weigh scalars will be there! I will report back what I find out.

Ok here goes with what I found out. This gets hilarious.

I called the people :D that should know the answers and they did not have a clue!

1.It seems that tractor owners know more than the government and the people that or responsible for enforcing the laws. Score one for you guys.

2.The DOT is more interested in pump handles color- diesel is green.

3.OSHA and Nfpa are interested in tank color. diesel is yellow

4.When I called the national DOT office they said green is for diesel. Tanks, handles and hose.

5.When I called Wa. state patrol they thought I was nuts, did not understand what I was asking until I drew them a picture, and still did not have a answer. They suggested I call the weigh station.

6.When I called the weigh station on I5, just north of Vancouver, Wa. They needed me to also draw them a picture, They finally told me it had to be an approved container for the fuel I was transporting. I asked them what constituted an approved container for diesel and they could not give me an answer. At this time I thanked them and got out of dodge cause the officer:mad: was beginning to smoke a little from under his hat.

7.I was raised in south Texas and all of the diesel tanks at that time were green and gas was red. I moved to south west Washington 30 years ago and all of the diesel tanks around the mill I worked at and in the logging camps had a lot of green diesel tanks. So I assumed that Green was a diesel designation. So since the fine officer that are enforcing these laws on us the public do not really know or understand what color is for diesel, I will paint my tank whatever color I want. :tractor: Kubota ORANGE!

I :dance1:have had more fun and have laughed more in the last hour than in a long time. It was better than watching a Laurel and hardy film. When I get my tank done I will post a picture of it so we can stay on topic! I have learned and had fun doing it Thanks Guys!

I have back troubles so I can't hold the cans. I concocted a gravity fed holder to store my gas cans. I used an old refrigerator (with air holes drilled into the carcase) to store the gasoline for the three mowers I have. I use two 5 gal red cans for the gas. I bought a device which looks and works like a gas pump. It had a plastic hose (since replaced with 5 ft of rubber hose) and the pump handle. Since the refrigerator is stored outside I don't worry about having a fire; also since the refrigerator was designed with insulation, it helps keep the fuel cool -even when its 115 degrees:thumbsup:. I only have one can for the diesel fuel, but I know I will need another. My tractor (CaseIH DX24e) has a 5 gal tank (I think) but it burns a lot when I'm using it.
If the color for the containers is supposed to be GREEN :D, then I'll spray paint the container with Green plastic paint, which is very inexpensive. I really don't like the new design on the diesel cans since it always goes glug, glug, urp.:confused2:
