A BX is a great machine for a 2 acre lot, long term..Digging foundations will take you forever with a 12" bucket., but it can be done. Stumps of a moderate size are no problem. The FEL BH and MMM come off fairly quick once you get the sequence down pat.

This is one piece of machinery that will do most everything that a general rural homeowner would need. Not all perfect, but it does well. One corner of the garage for one machine, instead of having to build a barn for 4 or 5 of them. Then most of them end up sitting waiting to be maintained.

I monster tractor will haunt you once you are done though, trust me on this one...Think about the present and future. I'd hire/rent the big stuff and spend your money long term.

As far as spreading a road, a BX will do just fine. Any delivered material can be handled nicely with one of these. As fast as a skid-loader, no, but it's a utility tractor. I moved 50 ton of limestone this past Saturday with my BX23.

BTW. A BX25 should have around 24-25 HP, not 18.

Good points. But I have been shopping for a year now. And I am sure I could spend another year deciding...

I am really leaning to the LK30 now, as I think that it would handle the heavier work much better than the SCUTs. My only real fear is that its weight could harm the root systems of my trees.

And not tree deaths? I never heard of anything along those lines until a week ago when I was talking to a landscape architect. I have no idea of the validity of the theory, but I want to be cautious with some of the older oaks on my land. Doesn't seem like 5K lbs should be that bad, tho.

Just read the whole thread and my suggestion is that you spend a few dollars renting machines for a day to get a better idea of their capabilities. Buy what will handle the highest percentage of your on going jobs.

I use a separate tlb, tractors and lawnmower this works well for me. Depending on frequency of need you can rent what is needed the least.

I am curious why you rate the tiller as being used so much? I can till seven inches deep on two acres in a day with multiple passes.


I would give a lot of thought to buying a used 110tlb to get the house and land in order, use it for a couple of years then either sell or trade for what you think would be best. After two years of use you will have alot better idea of your needs. If you can buy a used 110 for $30,000 and take care of it you can get most of this out at the end of the term, depreciation has already been taken into account. This unit would save alot of the clearing cost which should help with the purchase price. Adding the 3pt hitch gives you a real tractor to work with too.

That sounds like 0% financing for 60 mths OR a free lawn tractor. Sounds like the OP was planning on the 0% financing for whatever SCUT/CUT he gets.

I do recommend the two tractor set up with one being a dedicated mower. I bought my BX with the MMM intending it to be my one and only tractor. As it turned out, I kept my garden tractor and use it to mow with 90% of the time. It's just much easier than having to take the FEL off the BX, or mount the MMM, etc. Taking the FEL off isn't too bad, but mounting/dismounting the MMM is a bit of a hassle. Good luck with your decision.

Unless you are driving close around the same tree hundreds of times, I don't buy the soil compaction thing. Kiotis are heavy, and I wouldn't mow my lawn with one. But they do make excellent diggers precisely because of their weight and hydraulics. Short of the B26 or JD110, it's going to peform those ground engaging tasks the best. But, I'd only go that route if you plan on getting a separate mower. Is Kioiti offering the free loader now on the LKs? If not, I'd go with the CK equivalent.

Although older, a B21 would be an option too. It would be fine for a 2 acre property. Kubota in Sacramento had one a few weeks ago with clamshell bucket, TnT, everything. I think it was in the $12-13k range.

I think I would recomend either a BX or B sized machine. Unless you want to buy a larger, heavier and higher HP machine and then trade down latter, buy the machine that will be for the long term needs.

As far as taking attachments on and off, its not that big of deal. The first time I took my end loader and mid mount mower off, it seemed to take for ever. After a few times, you get pretty quick and its not that big of a deal. Buy the attachments you need and don't worry about getting them on and off. I orginally was going to keep a seperate riding mower for my place, but after about a month, I realized how much better and faster the BX was for mowing, and sold my riding mower. Maybe if you had a really smooth yard, a rider would be worth having.

I will say I have had my tractor for 7 years and only had my loader off 1 time. Not that its a major pain but that is what I bought the tractor for and its just too handy to have a loader when you need it.

I am getting finalized uotes on MF 1528 tlb and their 2410. Depending where they come in, I will go for one of those or the BX25.

I saw someone else here got the 1528 tlb with thumb, and a couple other minor options for 23.5. If I can get that price, that is probably the way I will go.

I had finally decided to get the Massey 1528 with TLB, but my dealer was unable to get the backhoe for it anywhere.

But I really liked the dealer and decided to go with the GC2410 TLB with a tiller and box blade. It should be here Fri or Sat.

I need to track down a thumb for the backhoe, too. Bro-tek is not answering emails and I can find no phone number for them. Any ideas on how to contact them or worthy altenatives?

Finally, I am building a garage for this and wonder if 8' doors tall enough?

Got a fast response this time. I think last round I may have tried contacting them thru ebay. Anyway the promptly got me pricing and a phone. I think its about 850 for both the ripper and thumb with expedited (2 wk) delivery.
