Congrats!!!!

No worries about Yanmar. They make a bullet proof engine.

For clarity, it the Mule uses a belt, it's no HST. Neither is your Rhino. Yamaha's wet clutch system is an improvement for sure.

Here's hoping this machine gives you years of great service.

If I said that the Rhino or Mike are hydrostatic, I was chewing on my tongue. The Kubota is the only HST UTV on Earth that I've found.

The Rhino is a CVT+ Ultramatic. And in my opinion this is the very best CVT system on Earth today.

The Kawasaki, according to one dealership I spoke to.... "Claims" that Yamaha and Kawasaki worked together on the Mule transmission design and that the Mule transmission shares many similarities to the Ultramatic CVT+ in my Rhino.

I sure do hope that I was not lied to!

The Yamaha system uses a "wet" centrifugal clutch inside the crankcase. At idle the belt sheaves are not turning eliminating the constant slipping of the belt. With slight throttle application the wet clutch locks up. At this time the drive sheave is spinning. If the vehicle isn't moving the belt is slipping just like Polaris' system at idle. To eliminate or minimize belt slippage the throttle should be firmly applied to lock up the belt within the sheaves and stop slippage. If this isn't done you have the same wear as other brands without the wet clutch.

I've went thru 4 belts. On my second set of sheaves. Haven't had to do anything to the wet clutch.

If the Mule uses this system extra care will be needed to avoid slippage. The Mule is considerably heavier. Then with the added haul capacity even more stress is added to the system. I have faith in Kawasaki that they got this right. Best ATV I ever owned was a Kaw 650 Prairie.

Are you referring to a Yamaha Rhino ultramatic transmission that you had multiple belt failures and sheave failures?

I asked because my understanding has always been that at no point can the belt ever be let free or drop slack, the belt is always 100% engage with the sheaves.

The centrifical drum clutch, which is oil bathed, does the slipping during a start or a stop. As you apply the throttle the shoes expand out into the drum surface and begin to apply pressure to the belt which is firmly engaged into the sheaves at all times. There is no slip designed into the Ultramatic belt drive side of the system, but if you get water in to the case or the belt eventually wears or glazes, it will doing and potentially fail spectacularly.

The only slipped designed into the system to allow you to start out is in the wet bath drum clutch system.

I've only ever worked my Rhino, hailing in the bed and pulling, pushing it dragging things. It's never been a trail toy. Knock on wood.... I've never had that black side case off.

It's getting picked up this week to start a new life as a commercial plow vehicle. I'm getting $5,500 for it. 20190113_145620.jpeg20190113_145715.jpeg20190113_145640.jpeg20190113_145730.jpeg

Yep. Twin to yours.

Ultramatic is a $100 word for sure.

If you don't work your Mulecany harder than you worked the Rhino you'll get along fine.

I wanted to love that machine, and really the cab is second only to that insane Can Am factory hard cab that is literally like an F150 inside.

The issues I had was no bench seat to squeeze 3 to 4 people, the bed wasn't big enough.... And when I took my 70 year old father to test drive it..... He said that he couldn't deal how slow it is!

So I got the big bench seat, I got the cab, I got the heat, I got the 54"x53" bed and I got a 30 mph Yanmar powered machine that honestly feels a lot more exciting. The acceleration is quite noticably more brisk.

I can see me stuffing 4 people into the bench seat, 2 big Yeti/Rtic coolers in the bed with 2 people sitting on each one and all of the camp chairs, eating utensils and things we need in a single trip.

Game changer!

The Rhino is being picked up Tuesday... Our 13 years together has come to an end.20190113_173440.jpeg20190113_173409.jpeg20190113_173456.jpeg20190113_173517.jpeg20190113_173617.jpeg20190113_173526.jpeg20190113_173551.jpeg20190113_173803.jpeg20190113_173844.jpeg20190113_145730.jpeg

You know... It kind of hurts me that I didn't buy a "pretty" one with the metallic painted body, aluminum mag wheels and fancy stickers.... I always like to buy social editions, limited edition, limited runs... My Truck is a Mojave Sand limited edition Rebel, my Wrangler is a Willys Wheeler Special Edition and my Rhino was the Liquid Metal Sport Edition.

Now I'm going to have steel wheels, a dull plastic body and nothing... Special.
