Tractor
Kubota L3000dt
Here a spring tooth harrow I built from an old pull type harrow that was sitting in the woods of an old farm I hunt. It had small trees growing through it and I had to pull it out with my tractor.

The landowner said please haul it off saying it was trash!

So my son and I had to cut it into pieces with a oxy/acy torch and haul it off. I took part of the original frame and made it a new frame. The three point top part is from an old brush hog that also was rusting away.

I have very little money in it and it works great. So far my Kubota has had no trouble pulling it and if it does I can just remove a tooth or two.

One persons junk is anothers treasure!

That ground hole plow is now a chisel plow. That is a nice plow.If the ground is dry it will make it like power.

That is a spring tooth cultivator. It was used to till between crop rows to control weeds, got a few hours experience on them. You did a real nice job on the rebuild and it should be a handy implement.

You are right JerryG, that is a chisel plow, Being a boy who really did not want to be cultivating and 45 + years ago tends to make the memory fade . Thinking back our cultivator had shovels but was similar in build. Thanks for straightening me out!

International used to have one that was kind of like a cross between the two. I would love to have one like that again. We had one when I was a kid. When I got married and moved to town, my mother didn't think that I would ever farm again so she sold it for nearly nothing. :( The shanks were real stiff but not as much as a chisel plow. They work real well to collect roots of new dozed ground.

I just got home from playing with it this weekend. I will say the thing will tear up some ground and it's my faster than my moldboard. I believe now I am going to remove at least one tooth, maybe two. The two rear middle want to clog up with large clumps of grass due to the spacing. also my 32hp will pull it but it tells me it doesnt like it. The weekend went so fast I just didnt have enough time!
If only I was rich and could spend more time doing fun stuff!

Next weekend?

theres a scrap yard (fairly big one) not far from my property. I was sadened to see the number of bottom plows, cultivators, spring harrows etc that showed up overnight when scrap hit $150 a ton last week. I kept thinking of all the cool impiments i could cut down to "small" useable size out of the huge 20'ers

There aren't any chisel plows in my area. If there were some old plows like that here, I would have one and cut the size down to use like you have. You can really get down in the ground and tear it up with a chisel plow.

Fabuluous tool... I've got a chisel plow without the springs on it.. Great job of recycling old iron... you've got a tool for life... don't break a tooth.. they are about $50 each.
