It's March 2nd in Northern PA..10 day forecast indicates a warming trend.

Looks like Mud Season is officially here.

Has anyone taken off their tractor snow chains yet???

Thinking it might be time, but I have been known to rush Spring!!!
Is there every a right time and you know for sure? I'm from western Canada and it was so warm in January and February that I was sitting on my deck in a light shirt having a Brewski. I was so confident that I took by chains off my NH Boomer 50 and the 7ft snow blower as well.
Well in the last week it has snow a foot and a half and it's cold and It's a pain for an old guy my age to be hooking up a 900lb blower in those conditions. And I sure wish the chains were back on.
What's the fuel prices in your area, I heard of $6.26 a gallon for gas on west coast.

No chains here in NEPA, but this soft ground is going to help me with the hundreds of tree seedlings coming from DCNR.

My chains stay on as well. All winter, with temps very cold, the tires alone do well. It is now when temps get up around freezing where the bare tires pack snow and slip. It is really now, at the end of season where the chains need to be on. Not to mention, mother nature always gives us a beauty to remember every March.

Yikes!! $3.7x here, that's bad enough.
As far as your first question, can't answer that without having lived in your region for a while to know what's typical. Last few years in my part of the world, snow's been well on its way to melting by late March, but March also can give some of the biggest storms of the season too.

At least a month before even thinking about removing tire chains.
