You are using little strips of it placed on top of steel trailer crossmembers to keep the treated lumber additives from eating the steel
You dont have to do it. Its just a little extra prevention.

That makes sense. I have some leftover from my recent roof replacement, so I will probably do that. Thanks.

Thanks for the tips. I also have a roll of butyl tape left over from when I replaced my windows. That might work too to separate the PT boards and the metal frame. Still too cold to do any painting, only 50 during the day and 30 at night. But I should be able to remove the old deck and work on the lights and wiring.

I am going a different route with my Big Tex 20 plus 5 trailer. The wooden deck has soft and rotten spots from being stored outside, and will need replacing very soon, if not before I use it again. I did some inquiring at places that I go to for tractor trailer repair and have found enough (combined with what I had already) to deck out my trailer in aluminum deck. Since I am still working 6 days a week, taking the time to strip it and replace it hasn't happened, and may not for a while but I have most of what I need. Hopefully this will be the last time I have to replace the deck! I may add a strip of wood between the aluminum for traction and occasional nailing of dunnage.

Be forewarned that using aluminum on a steel frame trailer without some type of barrier between them will promote rapid corrosion due to chemical reactions.

That'll work fine.

Good grief, just put pressure treat framing lumber from a professional lumber yard on with a little peel & stick ice/water shield and PT safe tech screws and be done with it.
You guys argue over technicalities like a bunch of wet hens sometimes.

<snip> 6x10 trailer.<snip> Its a single axle trailer rated at 3500 lbs,<snip> Using all 2x6's would cost $90. Using 2x10's with 1 2x6 would be $110. All tips or advice welcome. Thanks!
I've got to agree with Hay Dude. Make it simple and get er done. Your only talking a difference of $20.
I'd also recommend parking small engines on it when convenient to get the oil drip and protect the wood.
