Hi Muhammad,

Would you be so kind as to reset my status to "New Member" or at least "Bronze Member"? I'm embarrassed to be listed as a "Veteran Member" when all I've contributed is a bunch of questions. There are some real veteran members here, and I'm not in their class!! I just ask a lot of questions.. and I don't want people to think that my replies to any question they might ask actually represent any degree of expertise as might be suggested by the title of "Veteran Member." /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, the titles, way they are obtained, and reasons has been described before. But you might also consider the fact that for every question asked and responded to, there are probably at least a dozen or more of us that learn something, so even by asking questions you have "contributed" a benefit to the forum.

Hey Bob,

You've actually vocalized some of my thoughts, although I must admit I hadn't considered asking to be dropped back.

But I would agree with Bird, and add this. In most cases, for every question that is asked, regardless of who asks it, there are a number of registered members and non-registered members (lurkers) that were thinking about the same question but just hadn't asked it yet. If membership status were based solely on experience, I'd venture to say that there would be substantially fewer members than there are now.

Bob,

I'm in the same category as you. I do not hardly think of myself as a veteran member. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

However, as some of the others pointed out, you have asked questions and gotten responses which have provided new information or a different view.

Remember - there are no dumb questions!!

Bob -

Others have already said it, but try to imagine this board if nobody was asking questions.

Heck, I somehow made it to "Star" status, and I just figured out the big wheels are supposed to go in back. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

If it wern't for all of you Veteran and Star members etc. that have been with the TBN since it's conseption it might not be the fantastic and educational site that it is today.
And if it wern't for all of you either Asking or Answering questions and keeping the TBN alive and growing, it may never have made it this far. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif And the possibility of it not having been around for me to join and learn from is just to Horrendous a thought to even consider. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif
So Bob & Bird & MChalkley and all those to numerous to mention. As a fairly new member to the TBN. I Thank you for being Pioneers and seeing to it that the TBN was here for me to join. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My big wheels are up front when I use a back blade. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

See so you aren't even that smart /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

See Bob, it is stupid posts like mine that get your status up /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Cheers and keep up all the however seemingly dumb questions as it is what keeps TBN up and running.

Bob - First, a bunch of "dittoes" to the responses to you already received. (And "Thanks!" to Mark in NH...)

And consider this: I've asked as many questions as anyone. For a while, when I was agonizing over the "To replace the Kubota or not" and "If so, with what?" decisions, and shortly after making my decision, all I did, for several months, was ask questions about sources, ideas, you name it. And from the responses that followed, I wasn't the only one who learned for the discussion that resulted from those questions.

Shoot, a few times I've even asked questions just to stir things up - succeeded pretty well at it, too. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Your humility is great, but modesty includes recognition of your limitations and strengths/contributions. I can't remember how many times I've learned something that turned out to be very important while thinking through the answer to a question somebody asked. I remember somebody asking once whether you should let an HST warm up with the range selector engaged or not. It hadn't occurred to me to even think about that, but when I was pondering the question with the objective of proffering an answer, I realized that if you leave it in neutral, everything can turn freely, if only ever so slightly, so the oil could circulate. And then it ocurred to me that you could even push the HST pedal down, forward and reverse, with the range selector in neutral, and circulate the oil around some when it was cold without putting any load at all on the pump and motor. So I started doing that regularly when I was warming the tractor up from then on. And figured I was contributing to the longevity of the HST by doing so. Again, a good example of just how constructive a good question can be...

Maybe you should ask Muhammad to change your status to- - -?

Thanks, everyone.. and I truly do appreciate the support. But I wonder if I mis-communicated my intent in my first post.

I agree that there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions.. in fact that's what keeps the board going. So I'm not being critical of myself for having asked them, and, no doubt, I will continue to ask lots of them. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

What prompted my post was the feeling that I was "hanging out my shingle" as an expert, a "veteran" user of tractors, and that somebody new to the board might someday think that this meant I knew what I was talking about. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I don't want somebody taking something I say as gospel because they see that "Veteran" thing under my name.. and then going out and killing themself. Know what I mean?

The fact is, I've plowed snow twice, pushed some dirt and mud around a few times, and pushed a couple of vehicles that were stuck. I have never even *mounted* my (or any) tiller, rear mower, etc., because they were delivered in the fall and simply stored for the winter. I am, in fact, a rank beginner. I'm not putting myself down for this, it's simply a statement of fact.

I didn't mean to make such a big deal of this.. it was just a thought I had when I "rolled over" to Veteran yesterday.. so I thought I'd ask Muhammad to do a reset to get things back in sync. I'll leave it to you guys and Muhammad to decide if I'm right or wrong about my concerns.

Thanks again!
Bob

Bob - I think everyone here pretty much understands that the status relates to the amount of time you've wasted, er, invested participating in educational activities, here at TBN. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif So rest easy, and cancel that appointment with the liability specialist attorney. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
