I just started some landscaping and retaining walls, myself, this is the first time I have had a tractor with a backhoe, to put the bases in, in the past I always used a pick and shovel So the Tractor is quite the improvement!!

smf, what type of blocks are those? we use versalok around here, they are $2.50 + each but they are solid and pin in place.

The blocks are:Rockwood classic 6

They were a $4.10 a block. Total material cost is going to be around $3,200 (blocks, aggregate, paving bricks).

Just a bit of caution for others building these kinds of walls. Once you get over 3.5' to 4.0' they simply do not weigh enough to resist overturnning from heavy or wet soils. For the portions over that height, install the geogrid/geotextile as recommended by the manufacturer. If you can't find the data, a geogrid tie-back equal to the height of the wall will be plenty. Looks great! I think you can find some blocks closer to $1 per each, too.
