Thanks for the tip on the tire serials. I did not know that! Yes, I have picked up a number of tires and disposed of them. I will do a further Google search and learn more about the serial number system. Hopefully, there's a way to track the slobs down, next time.
Tire serial numbers won't help you identify the illegal dumpers. All the serial numbers give you is the tire manufacurer and the date the tire was built. The fact that the serial numbers had been removed with a tire knife indicate that the tires were dumped by a tire store trying to get rid of their junk tires.
The reason they cut the serial numbers is they don't want sombody trying to get a tire adjustment out of an already adjusted tire. The bad part of all this is that the customer already paid a tire disposal fee for proper handling of the junk tires and the tire shop didn't do its job.
