I want to thank everyone for there kind words and to let yall know that my sister sent me an E-mail and said she has almost all the movies on the list. Her son has outgrown them and hasn't watched them in forever so she is going to give them to my kids for Christmas. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I guess I will wait till after Christmas before I try to replace any movies.
I fixed the door jamb that the criminals kicked in yesterday. It cost me about 23 bucks and my time. Yes, I have insurance, but I live in Texas and ever since the mold thing we have to save our claims for the real emergencies like a tornado or flood otherwise we pay BIG TIME. We all pay in the end anyway /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, I just like to choose how.

I was recently watching one of those home repair and fixup shows, like maybe Hometime on PBS, and they were installing a kick-proof doorjamb. I can't recall the details, but it involved some angle iron or something that strengthened the doorjamb such that you'd break your foot long before you kicked in the door. Didn't sound all that expensive as I recall.

I repaired my door with a piece of angle iron that made it impossible to kick the door jamb apart.

If one looks at a door jamb, even the deadbolts wouldn't stop someone kicking in the door. There is usually only about ¾" of pine wood resisting the 'kick'. Now there are longer screws that can be used to go through the jamb strike plates, the pine jamb and then back into the stud frame. They are more difficult to kick in, but the angle iron between the jamb and the stud frame is much more effective.

However, most houses are much easier to get into by not going through the door. A window can be taken out or kicked out to enter. If that is too difficult or noisy, it is much, much simpler and (on many new houses) easier to just use a good, sharp utility knife. The vinyl siding is easy to cut through, and then the pink 1" foam sheathing behind the siding (stay away from the plywood sheathing at the corners), remove the the fiberglass insulation between the studs, and then cut through the drywall. Wallah! you have a narrow door between the studs to walk through (don't trip over the electrical wires when entering or leaving). Hard to move the TV through that narrow door, but once in then unlock the entry doors for easy exit. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif (I don't do this, but do realize it can easily be done). Doors have to be the hardest to get through. One might sprain an ankle or hurt their shoulder. (maybe this should go under the Safety forum).. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I used to own Bridge City Home security llc. for 18 years.
Not once did I see or hear of someone going thru the siding on a house.
Its always a window or kicked in door, or an unlocked door.

Marine 1 please be careful most of the time they come back within 90 days, because the insurance has paid & you have replaced the goods !

Also 60% of the time they live in your own neighborhood & know your routine, when your gone ect... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
