Re: Ron\'s Project

Tried to get to my property for two days. Got tied up late at work at didn't get up North until Thursday afternoon. Just in time for a hail storm and torrential downpour. Everything is still mud. Friday was sunny and I managed to get some more clearing done.

The stump pile is growing. That dark mass in the background is the stump pile.

Egon

I bought the machines with the intent that I would do all the work on my property myself. And when I retire I would do work on the side. But it's kind of a catch 22 situation. The payments on the machine are keeping me too broke to afford to do any construction. I'm trying to do everything that involves the machines and doesn't cost a lot. When I'm finished paying for the machine I'll start building the house. In the meantime I hope I can scrape enough together to build the barn. I'm not quite ready to sell my house in the city.

Project Update.
I had a logger come in and clear down about 400 feet, and then dogleg down another 4 or 5 hundred feet to the corner of the property. The far corner drops steeply. It is a 180 foot drop. This opened up the view to the mountains. This is the view from the top of the driveway.

Re: Ron\'s Project

The logger and his partner cleared a landing to stockpile the timber logs and the trees that they were going to chip. They took out five truck loads of timber logs and seven tractor trailer loads of chips. The chips are sold to an electric plant that is chip fired. After they were done I started to clear up behind them and brought in a 40 foot shipping container. I'm in the process of putting the container on footings. I dozed the mess at the landing into a big pile. I'll sort it out later. This is the container and the pile.

Re: Ron\'s Project

The logger left tons of slash behind. I spent two weeks on the property. We have a pit for a "campfire". My wife gathered two or three bucket loads of slash every day, which we burned each evening for our "campfire'. This is my wife and Wally inspecting the slash.

Re: Ron\'s Project

There are hundreds of stumps and tons of slash that still has to be removed, but we are happy with the view we will be getting. Since we will be looking over our own property no one will be able to block our view.

Looking good Ron! My brother-in-law is doing the same thing with some property in Vermont. We were up there the end of September and my wife took a picture of our daughter where you can see the view he has in back. If you look close, you can see the pond he dug on his land as well...
