cowboy- I am not saying anything just what makes it a top tier. What defines a top tier?

I just do not buy there CSR junk. In todays world they can pack up and sell the place overnight.

I NEVER stated anyone was "ignorant" as you stated. It is just what makes it a top tier. Well?

All I will post here is that if you post something BACK IT UP!

Gents,
Lets not argue about this.
I think Mike is "top tier", but he could be just another "cracked-up" oil expert! bw

Lets settle this once and for all:

Rotella is a group 3 oil that contains the following:

Mixture 90 - 98.99 %volume Highly refined petroleum oils
Mixture 1 - 4.99 %volume Proprietary additives
Proprietary 1 - 4.99 %volume Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate

If you think it is top tier then so be it. I just wonder if you think that is top tier, what in the world is polyalphaolefins or polyol ester base oils. Super Duper top teir oils! unreal

"top tier " of a group III= ROFL

How important is a "top tier" oil if I use a full synthetic oil and change it every 3000 miles in my vehicles and every 100 hours (at the most) in my tractors? I use Mobil 1 by the way but am open to almost anything as long as it's not Amsoil products.

The two best group 4/5 diesel oils are Redline and Amsoil.
Mobil is lacking in several areas.

Why you hate Amsoil I have no idea. Next is why change at 3K miles? No reason too..ever!

Go online and do some homework. That is what I would do.

Mike, there are several reasons to change your oil at 3000 miles.

Reason 1. You own a Quickie Lube and you want your customers to do the same.

Reason 2. You don't own a Quickie Lube but you have stock in the oil they use.

I would consider Rotella, Delo etc. top tier in the dino oil group. I think this way because it's what I use and I like it that way. I typically go Chevron Delo because it is more readily available in my area. I suppose I could go to Walmart and buy the Rottella but then I would break my record of being the only one I know that has yet to go into one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bingo!

That is what makes Shell and other group 3 oils a "hot item". They base performance on availability.

That's complete nonsense Mike. Up until about 5-10 years ago Rotella was not mainstream and was difficult to get. Rotella got to be mainstream because it was a good oil and they did the tests to prove what they were saying with the oil. Rotella was making quality oil long before Amsoil and synthetics were even a thought to be run in diesels.

Rotella is the most widely used oil in the trucking industry. Bad oil creates down time, down time cost money. They use the best oil that is justified for that use. I don't think that our tractor use is any harder that what they put their long haul engines through.

Any diesel place has been selling diesel oils for years. Rotella hard to get? Maybe if you are looking at Walmart!. Have you EVER used a real quality group 4 or 5? Time to step up a level. I also guess since you use Rotella you must have a Ford Powerstroke. I think it is integral to using Rotella.

Again, so far, most posts I have read base their oil on availability. So far I never see any tests results on why they use it. All I see is where they buy it.

Also when you stated, “… good oil…” compared to what? Not a PAO or ester base oil. Also the quality is the same thing. Compared to what?
