Yes, that's the way we do things here. No setting the posts in concrete, just set the post on the existing concrete "footer" and backfill with dirt, there's no need to backfill with crushed stone.

The cookie helps distribute the weight and keeps the end of the post from being in direct contact with the earth. Whether it protects against rot is a different story; with your soil, the post is going to be damp. Backfilling with gravel will help improve drainage, but may not be as effective against lifting forces, e.g. wind.

Would it be worth taking 2" angle iron, bolting it to the post and use tapcons into the concrete floor to keep it from possibly shifting in the future?
Also, 4 1/2" diamond cutting wheel on the angle grinder cut thru the siding like butter. Wish I would have had one of those years ago when I sided a old barn.
