Ruger Mini 14

Have a 10 year old mini 14 in .223 Rem. Works flawlessly. Not the most accurate in the world, but good enough to 100+ yds which is all I wanted for woods varmints.

As other posters have noted, Ruger has recently upped their game on accuracy, likely due to competition from AR-15's. AR-15's were, and to some extent still are, too expensive for my liking compared to the mini 14.

From a reliability standpoint, it will serve you well. In my view, the synthetic stock / stainless barrel is butt-ugly, but eminently servicable in foul weather, so I bought that combo. This firearm is not a showpiece for me, unlike some of my others - it is a quick reaction multiple varmint exterminator.

Don't know about interchangable magazines, sorry. The factory stock 4 round clip is all I need.

I have a Mini-14 tactical. I have been very happy with the rifle and have not had any problems with it in the 3yrs that I have owned it. I use it for its intended purpose as a ranch/farm rifle. I have a mount under the canopy of my tractor that it stays in while bush hogging. I am well pleased with the accuracy of this rifle. I never fired the older version of the Mini, but as I understand they were not nearly as accurate as this new model. I have 5,20 and 30 round mags for it. I know you can get cheaper aftermarket plastic ones but I went ahead and purchased all factory Ruger steel mags as they seem much better quality. I have no regrets with this rifle.

don't know about availability, but saw in the book for Mini-14 that family got, it is available in 6.8SPC. That is a nice cartridge for up to and including deer/pig.

I do not see it listed at thier site though.

It has been my expierience the last 30 years or so, that most entry to mid grade Ruger rifles and pistols benefit from a trigger job, and often a tuning. At least, from what I have seen with Mini-14, 10-22, Blackhawk, Single-Six.

Sounds like the trigger job would be well worth it. Wifey doesn't realize that on top of the gun price I have to stock up on ammo!:D

Connecticut Precision Chambering for a trigger job on the Mini....best $60.00 you will spend.3lb.crisp trigger.

Called the nearby Walmart and they still have the wood stock blued steel version for 697.00. May try and go look at it tomorrow.

Serial number starts with 582 which I believe implies that it has a drilled and tapped receiver already for a scope.

As much as I like buying guns it's such a hassle to actually get thru all the paperwork.

When I bought my Beretta 92FS at Cabelas, it took about 15 minutes to fill out and another 30 waiting to get approved.

with only 1 page of questions and a place to sign and date on the back.. a 4473 should take about 2-3 minutes max to fill out if you can read a newspaper and don't have a physical disability with writing.
