Ruger or Glock

   / Ruger or Glock #41
Once again, I am comparing the Ruger LC9s and the Glock 43. For many various reasons I have narrowed the choice down to those two. What I MUST HAVE, remember this, I MUST HAVE, is a cross draw holster so I can get the weapon into use while sitting down. I only want a 9mm as I will be required to shoot so many rounds a month. I also do not want to spend a bunch on money as it will be used only on one morning every other week. I will be positioned in a place to watch people coming in a building observing their behavior and looking for weapons.

Priorities are to not break the bank, to have multiple carry accessories, to use 9mm ammo, to be utterly reliable, to be completely concealable.

Sometimes I will buy something that costs extra just because I want it. Same with these two guns. Pick one and go for it and enjoy it. It doesn't always have to be the greatest deal or the most thought out plan or make the most sense.

One is only a couple hundred more.

Again, no one can make this choice for you. Opinions are wonderful and all and everybody has one or ten. Some gun stores allow you to test fire before purchase and some gun ranges rent different models to fire. See what you like best. .

Find a range that will rent both pistols. Put 50 rounds through each one and compare them side by side. Then look for your holster choices for the pistol you like. You should be able to find a good holster for either. Ruger Vs Glock or any brand vs any brand is the same as Ford vs Chevy....each brand has their fans and each brand has their detractors. Shoot them both and decide what's best for you.

What I am looking for is a reason to buy the Glock over the LC9s. Is it worth the extra money?

My Rugers have been stone cold reliable. The little LCP had a failure to eject when I let it get completely filthy. Once cleaned it again ate every type of ammo I could put thru it. Will the LC9s operate as reliably?

Will the Glock be as dependable? Is it worth the $150 extra to buy?

I know several people who have the double stack Glocks but I know nobody who has the single stack 9mm or the Glock 380.

Somebody persuade me to spend the extra money for the Glock.

Buy both and a m&p and a kimber.

But first sell 1 gun to justify it with the wife.

It would be best to shoot both and decide. If that's not possible, get the Ruger. It will be so far superior to the LCP that you will be overjoyed. Then NEVER shoot a Glock 43.....

I never liked the grip angle on my glock. Be sure to shoot any type of glock before you buy one. The grip angle is different than a 1911.

It depends on the person if you feel better with a safety then buy that one. They make some of the same models with or without you choose what you want to carry .

For me, it is all about safety!
I think it is very UNLIKELY that I will EVER NEED to use the weapon, but I do want to have it with me.
I have no intention to ever be a quick draw McGraw.
I carry my 9mm Ruger LC9 in my front jeans pocket, to keep my hand on it, if I should sense an impending threat.
I can then readily push the safety off as I withdraw the weapon from my pocket holster.
I consider that without a safety, the odds to somehow have an accidental discharge, and wound myself, are far greater, than for me to actually NEED to use the weapon against an attacker.
More than a few LEO's have shot themselves!

Its always about safety. Always better to have it and never need it, Than not have it and need it:) Its not the guns with or without a safety I worry about its the person holding the gun.

This looks like good advice. After that range exercise, both your target and your gut will give you the answer.

I have the ruger and have found it to be extremely reliable. That being said it is not super simple to field strip. Pull back the slide a bit, use a paper clip or small screwdriver to push a pin sideways, then can be stripped. Not the end of the world buy something to consider. Make sure to get the lc9s....not just the lc9. The triggers are very different. This little gem fits my hand well.
