Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be at full MSRP. Most dealers won't want to discount something they are likely to get back.

Which is why taking advice on matters such as this from people in bars and forum groups is a foolish venture. The ones saying "Tell them mothers to stick it!" have nothing invested and even less to lose.

Who should he take advice from if not people with actual experience with the product and company and a cumulative several hundred years of experience and hundreds of the brand specific product and even the exact same model?
What forum caused you to have such hostile feelings? What about Mother's, how do you feel about them? And little children? And the elderly? and the handicapped? Medical personnel? Accountants? Mechanics? Sales people? Counselors? Ministers? Lawyers? Oops went to far.:)

Good Morning all,
After my request was denied, I called Kubota's Northeast Regional office directly, and spoke with some friendly people.

24 hours later, I got a call from the dealership saying that Kubota had talked with them, and that the dealership was going to cancel my contract and take back the tractor. The dealerships position was that this was still a good tractor, and since they repaired it, it ws "better than new." They also told me I was free to do business with other dealerships.

So, it's not exactly the outcome of a "new tractor," but it will allow me to do that with a different dealership. I got the sense that the dealership had had it with me, so this is probably a good outcome overall. I'll start a relationship with a different dealer, all of 10 miles away further from my house...

Thank you everyone for your comments, support and insight. I'm a tad wiser now, and I guess you can teach old dogs new tricks...

Good luck. When you buy another tractor, hope you have your big boy underwear on and your checkbook with you. Trust me, they will make it up at some point in your "retlationship."

I don't see where someone would "punish" the OP. If I was a dealer, I would see the condition of my equipment as a representation of me. I wouldn't sell something in that condition as new and expect my reputation to remain good. A tractor like that should be sold "as is". If it happened during shipping, the dealer should send it back to Kubota. If it happened at the dealer, shame on them for letting fairly new equipment get to that state. This has been a great thread to educate others to really inspect the unit before accepting it. There are honest mistakes and sometimes shady dealers who try to take advantage. Which this was is unknown. Hopefully both the OP and the dealer learned something here. I'm most curious to see what happens to the original tractor now. Be interesting to have someone go check it out and see how it's represented to a buyer. Anyway, in this economy, no one is going to lose a sale over this. For what purpose? The dealers around here will take all the customers they can get.

By ignoring the part of my post about "matters such as this" and highlighting the part that interest you, you have shown your Cliff Clavin side.
I did not say that all advice given here is useless as I have taken many notes from the posters here.
I merely pointed out that a man that admitted to getting a fair deal, has listened to strangers and is now tractorless.

As for the other folks you mentioned, they aren't relevent to this topic.

I think Jonathan wasn't sure and asked others what their experience was on the amount of rust on a "new tractor". What the heck is wrong with that?

Also I believe Jonathan was considering keeping it, but then when it developed a leak around a very rusted shaft he realized this wasn't just a cosmetic gripe and could lead to many issues down the road.

I can't believe how some folks here have treated Jonathan and I'd bet anyone who received such machine would have done the same with the same experience Jonathan had in buying new tractors.

I think the dealer would be smart to keep his mouth shut and not embarrass his reputation any further than he already has. And if the dealers did conspire against customers then I wouldn稚 want to do business with any of them. Highly doubtful Jonathan would be blacklisted, maybe in some 3rd world country or something. Jonathan did nothing wrong but demand some respect.

No way poster is going to get it from a price stand point....
They would want a sale & a good reputable dealer is just that, they don't play around with rusty ****..that should have been sent back to Kabota,, dealers can & do get stupid & there buisness suffers for it, as it should. We luckily have 2 worldclass dealers for Kabota within 40 miles of each other, both go WAY out of there way to make sure customer is #1 & nothing else matters, they are so way ahead of most dealers around here that it is a joke. All because they don't pull the **** that his dealer did. That tractor should have never been delivered. Different when a customer scratches his own tractor etc & rust starts, but new is new. **** I wasn't even home when they delivered mine this year & I did not worry as my dealers are solid, his was not. Good on him & never look back. He should enjoy his newly educated tractorbuying & get exactly what he wants. In my neck of the woods Kabota gives 10%off parts for life to original purchaser & does pickups & returns for free each & every time. Also there is life after Kabota..

If he finds that type of behavior amongst other Kubota dealers, all he will need to to is go to a JD or NH dealer and tell the story. They will hook him up to the best of their abilities and use it as a selling point for years to come.

When I purchased this tractor, I solicited quotes from 12 dealerships. I went with a balance of the cheapest and the quickest lead time using a local dealer. It has now been proven my **** retentive engineering matrix doesn't reveal everything.

The reason it had the shortest lead time was that it had been out back rusting for a very long time...

Tomorrow I will start the process of calling other dealers. I don't feel I'll be blacklisted, and the quotes I have from before this saga will stand as the benchmark proof... And as others have stated, if I feel that I am being mistreated, there are green tractors that will suit my purposes just fine...

I will let the group know the outcome, but I don't expect any hassles or problems.

Thank you everyone for your input. This forum did help drive results. Both with feedback to me on what was acceptable, as well as my ability to highlight the existance of this discussion to Kubota. I can't quantify how much weight that carried, but a major manufacture has to take notice when a discussion like this becomes a high level hit on the words Kubota and rust...

I think the dealer I bought from sets the standard for what a dealer should do. What probably makes a big difference is this is a small dealership and the owner can be seen on any day playing the part of salesman, parts guy, delivery guy, etc. His price was competitive from the beginning. The day I decided to buy, I arrived at the dealership with money in hand. He said no to the money and said we would take care of payment and paperwork once the tractor was setting at my house, everything was gone over, and everbody was happy. The owner delieverd it himself. He has also made follow up calls to make sure everything is going well. He has also been there to handle very minor issues after the sale. Can't ask for much more than that. I realize that in larger dealerships the owner can't do it all, but they can work to instill these traits in their employees to some extent. Just my opinion. My tractor was in excellent condition when delievered. Maybe I got lucky when buying.

I hope these tough economic times don't affect him. It would be a shame for him to not be in business anymore.
