SAFE Mowing

I'm still hoping to get a 2305 with a 62" MMM for maintenance on my 7 acres of rolling hills. The grass (a converted hayfield that wasn't mowed last year) is about knee high and full of briars, mulberry saplings, and an occaisional groundhog hole. My goal is to brush hog it all first and then keep about 5 acres trimmed at the maximum MMM height and the other 2 acres (around the house) at about 2". My concern is SAFELY mowing the hills, which are fairly steep in places. Is there a lower probability of rollover on slopes if you: (1) mow parrallel to the slope or (2) up and down the slope?

Position a camera on the slope as you mow accross the slope. We wanna see cool pictures of a tractor rolling!

Go up and down as you mow. try to make sure that you vary as much as you can; you will always have some compaction, you don;t want to create ruts!
If in doubt, back up the slope rather than going nose up.

The 2210/2305 tractors are pretty stable with just the MMM on. More than likely, you will know pucker-factor well before it gets upset. Up and down is the safe way, while wearing your seatbelt. As for using the 62C for a brush hog, it would work. I would walk the grounds first looking for rocks, and/or cut really, really slowly the first time out each year. I like the feel of my 2210 tires loaded with RimGuard, it adds about 110 lbs per tire and seems to make the tractor feel more stable. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

What brushhog are you going to use? You will tear your MMM up more than likely. Brush hog it to find all the obstacles and go from there.
