Having serviced the gearbox of my MMM, the steps as outlined in the manual is far too granular and unnecessary. The pulley on the gearbox doesn’t need to be removed. The casing doesn’t need to be separated either.
There are two inset Allen screws on each side of the gearbox, and not visible when seated within the support brackets of the MMM.
Once the gearbox is removed from the support brackets, you’ll see the two inset Allen screws, on each side (total of four). These Allen screws access the gear oil inside the vessel of the gearbox.
Pick a side, and while holding it in a position to prevent the gear oil from spilling out, remove both Allen screws of one side.
Pour out the gear oil through one of the two openings. Then replace one of the Allen screws and position the gearbox so the remaining opening is above. Using a syringe or other filling device, replace the gear oil with exactly 6 ounces. Then put everything back together again.
The first 50 hour service after removal of the gear oil may need appropriate cleaning fluid to wash out metal shavings, compressed air to dry out vessel and replacement of the gear oil. As mine had 300 hours on my tractor Hobbs meter, 100 hours estimated use of the MMM, this wasn’t necessary.
Total time to perform this service was 1-1/2 hours, taking my time. Easy Peezy.
