How many of us are guilty of working/driving all day, being dog tired and only have 10 miles more to make it home......
We know we should pull over but we continue anyways......

This is true. I knew it all at 16 but have come to realize that I've forgotten most of it.
The more you know the more you know you don't know.

Someone please get this train wreck back on track. It's getting awfully insulty out, which will get even good threads closed.

I wish I’d gotten a picture but two days ago I passed a guy on coming up our narrow winding 9% hill pulling a D6 on a goose neck with a 2006ish Dodge 3500 4WD SRW.

I’d hate to picture trying to stop or avoid anything with that setup. Ironically he’s one of the only people around here driving a truck like that WITHOUT the mirrors extended.

I do not think it is all that "insulty". A few rank posts, but all in all not that bad.
There is a discussion meandering, but which thread does not have some of that.....
Especially after 9,660 posts and over a million and a half views.
I think a good portion of the recent posts are looking at self and pointing out our human flaws, especially in regards to hauling and towing.

We all can learn something from a good discussion.

I think it may be over the GVW rating for that rig.....

18 tons

The snow has been a record around here.
The driveway snow banks are so high that most completely hide a car.

Couple weeks ago a pickup was parked (completely hidden) with a roof mounted ladder that was sticking out into the traffic flow.
Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic and I caught sight in time to swerve onto the opposite lane.
Naturally not even a red flag.

Making matters worst he was parked in a drive that was partially around a curve making it a very last minute eye capture.

Speed was not an issue either.

Not "wrong" in particular, just funny to see an old man riding a bicycle while towing a bicycle on a trailer the size of a small car on a stretch of road that has a 55MPH limit... He does this all the time and has for years.

What goes on the trailer?

I'm saying that I did good.

2 chains on the front of the tractor a 2 axle straps and 2 3,300 lb work (10K break rated) straps. All attached to 5,000 lb rated bolt on D-rings that were fully welded on.

1850 lb tractor.
1,000 loader.
1,000 backhoe
800 lb. Rim Guard.
7,000 gross trailer.
Over 1,000 lb tongue load.20190330_102307.jpeg20190330_102258.jpeg

Those looks like some of our Alaskan roads...narrow and winding with no shoulders. He is either very brave or a total idiot. We have a 400 mile bicycle race here on those exact kind of roads. I stay home on the race days.

First of all, watch out with that old man crack. I resemble that remark.
second, those roads look just like some NY roads. Like Doofy said, long, narrow and winding, drop off on the side with no guard rails, holes patched.
At least he doesn't have much tongue weight with the spare bike at the back. No helmet either.
Now that the weather is breaking maybe I should start riding mine. But mine 's got a motor.

It seems like a crash buffer like DOT trucks have. Almost.

Never saw a license plate on a buggy. Is that an Indiana thing?

Good question. I never paid any attention to that. i will have to find out.

Old people can learn too, I remember how much my father learned while I was away in the service.

When I look back, it is amazing how dumb I was and how desperately in need of knowledge as a kid. I have learned so much over the years but now mostly by listening and not talking. It took a while for me but pay attention to the smart people and avoid the others. Wish I learned this when younger.

I bet biologically he's 65, physically 30!

I exercise with people in their 80's that have exercised for decades and no one can ever correctly guess their ages. They all look 15 years younger. I see 50 year olds that can't catch their breath on stairs but 80 year olds that can do six hard miles, plus weights, every morning. Eating right plays a big part.

Good question. I never paid any attention to that. (License plates on Amish buggies.) i will have to find out.

If you want to start a fight to the death around here, mention putting anything on the back of a buggy, especially a license plate. That will absolutely not happen. Safety triangles and lights on the back still stirs the pot but I do see those.

With towing, I find it takes the same time to do it the right way as the wrong way. I have a 14,000 lb trailer to haul up to 10,000 lbs total weight, tie down all corners and attachments and take it easy. It only takes a couple of minutes to tie down and surely no longer than to do it than any other way. Plus, I arrive at my destination relaxed. Things can go wrong in towing that you don't plan on.
