Wagons - automobiles obsoleted and redefined an entire industry? And the last to change would be agriculture? The current transportation industry may have current specific definitions, but it doesn't eliminate all the others.

Yup. Not that people always like it when I refer to mine as a wagon, or station wagon, since the politically correct term is now SUV.

My FIL does the same. Always thought it was weird, the manufacturer classes it as an "SUV", but he prefers "wagon".

I'm not sure how they do it now since I don't currently have an SUV, but Michigan DMV didn't have an SUV category so they were titled as "Station Wagon".

It cracked me up when I noticed that the insurance company calls my Jeep JK "Sport Wagon". It's about the least sporty vehicle I own...and that it's a diesel doesn't exactly help.

Now that you mention it, I remember my 1978 Bronco was classified the same. Funny, as it was up on 40" mud tires with Dana 60 axles.

Meanwhile, in California they wanted to register my K-5 Blazer as a "truck" (to get more money).

After pointing out that it had a rear seat they caved, thankfully.

My mother drove us all around in a metallic green Ford LTD wagon that was really not that far removed from that vehicle, all thru the 1980's.

Ours lacked the paneling, but my father bought a similar-sized Chevy wagon with the wood grain for his surveyor crews to use, about the same time.
