Thanks for the advice. Feel pretty good about it so last night the deal was done. I'll have it delivered next week and will let everyone know how it works out and maybe put a couple of pictures up.

Used to get excited about sports cars and bikes, now it's tractors... must be getting old!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

( ( I especially like the tight turning radius (28" to 32" vs. 7' for most of the sub-cuts) )

The BX is 32 or 36" uncut if I recall?

I traded one of these on a BX one time. I don't knock too many tractors, but this was one that I really did not understand. It costs about the same as other subcompacts but its a garden tractor. The loader did not come on and off nicly, you had to remove a grill guard to open the hood. The valves and pumps where engineered the same way tractors from 20 years ago where done. I traded that one in for $5000 with a loader and mower. )

Are you sure that you're talking about a Legacy XL? You can remove the loader without ever leaving the seat -- that's probably the slickest thing about the tractor...

The XL is a significantly redesigned Legacy, done when they introduced 4WD...

According to the Kubota literature I picked up from my local dealer, the "min. turning radius" for the Kubota 2230 is 7.5 feet.

Good luck with your tractor - when I was looking for a small tractor last year I looked at the Legacy XL but could not find any dealers in my area that had them. For what I wanted to do (major excavation) the SubCUT's from other mfg's seemed better suited. I think you might be the first on this board to even have a Legacy - please post pics and experiences when you get the tractor. A number of months ago another poster was looking for info on SubCUT sized tractors and I put together a list which included the Legacy XL - and I got beaten about the head a bit from fellow TBN'ers for including the Simplicity on the list. I still stand by that given the attachments available and the size of the tractor - good to hear that somebody out there actually has one so we can get a report. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi, new to this forum - but I love talking about my new tractor. I got a Legacy XL about a month ago with FEL & 60" mower. Totally satisfied thus far. Some may call it a garden tractor, but this machine has worked extremely hard for me already. I only have two acres, some of which is wooded. Primary use is for lawn maintenance but I got the FEL for moving mulch and other jobs. I moved the pile of mulch and I wanted more to do, so I started excavating some concrete foundations on the property from an old sheds and a brick bbq. Worked like a champ. I put all teh crap in a pile to wait for a dumpster. Then I thought, why not dig a pit, throw the concrete/rocks in it and cover it up. Did just that - dug about four feet down, threw a few tons of crap in there and covered it up/smoothed it over.

Then today I tried to dig out an old stump. Sucker came right out, (it had been there for a while). Ended up popping out six old stumps in total today - all came out nicely. The current stump is about 18" in diameter and isn't budging. I cut roots with an axe, dug all around with the XL, and out a chain on my f-150, still not moving. Maybe I shouldn't have started this one....

And, the FEL comes on/off literally in 3 minutes or less. No exaggeration, not 4 or 5 minutes, but 3 minutes. Wonderful design. The 27HP diesel is branded by Briggs, but made by Daihatsu and runs like a champ. The power steering ad foot pedals make driving a joy. In fact, the only downside is it takes about 10 minutes to put on or off the 60" mower - the sucker weighs 300 lbs. (my 42" deck for an older Allis comes on and off in <5 minutes)

I absolutely love this machine. It is perfect for my needs. Sure, I could use something bigger than this for the stump I'm working on now, but for that matter I would need a significantly larger tractor which would make it unsuitable for my other needs. I don't necessarily believe in "buy as much tractor as you can afford", but rather "but what you need". I am an extremely happy owner.

Anyway, I have pictures of everything I've done so far, and will post some when I get some time so you can see what this machine is capable of.

Regards,
Randy on Long Island

WOW Randy, you have me even more excited now. Can't wait for it to get here. If I didn't know better, I'd say I wrote your post, 'cause that's exactly my machine and exactly what I'll be doing with it. Keep it coming!!!

Thanks Phoenix1 and Randyny! You have established the Simplicity Legacy XL as a bonafied competitor to the Kubota 2230, JD 2210 and Massey 2200. I am going to seriously look at it so I can retire my Allis Chalmers 620.

I would have purchased the Kubota 2230, but I really like the tight turning radius of the Legacy XL. Please post more success stories about your new tractors.

another of the pit.

These are my first experiences with a loader - I imagine the jobs will go easier and quicker with more experience. I also figure a oothbar is in the cards...
