Hi, new to this forum - but I love talking about my new tractor. I got a Legacy XL about a month ago with FEL & 60" mower. Totally satisfied thus far. Some may call it a garden tractor, but this machine has worked extremely hard for me already. I only have two acres, some of which is wooded. Primary use is for lawn maintenance but I got the FEL for moving mulch and other jobs. I moved the pile of mulch and I wanted more to do, so I started excavating some concrete foundations on the property from an old sheds and a brick bbq. Worked like a champ. I put all teh crap in a pile to wait for a dumpster. Then I thought, why not dig a pit, throw the concrete/rocks in it and cover it up. Did just that - dug about four feet down, threw a few tons of crap in there and covered it up/smoothed it over.
Then today I tried to dig out an old stump. Sucker came right out, (it had been there for a while). Ended up popping out six old stumps in total today - all came out nicely. The current stump is about 18" in diameter and isn't budging. I cut roots with an axe, dug all around with the XL, and out a chain on my f-150, still not moving. Maybe I shouldn't have started this one....
And, the FEL comes on/off literally in 3 minutes or less. No exaggeration, not 4 or 5 minutes, but 3 minutes. Wonderful design. The 27HP diesel is branded by Briggs, but made by Daihatsu and runs like a champ. The power steering ad foot pedals make driving a joy. In fact, the only downside is it takes about 10 minutes to put on or off the 60" mower - the sucker weighs 300 lbs. (my 42" deck for an older Allis comes on and off in <5 minutes)
I absolutely love this machine. It is perfect for my needs. Sure, I could use something bigger than this for the stump I'm working on now, but for that matter I would need a significantly larger tractor which would make it unsuitable for my other needs. I don't necessarily believe in "buy as much tractor as you can afford", but rather "but what you need". I am an extremely happy owner.
Anyway, I have pictures of everything I've done so far, and will post some when I get some time so you can see what this machine is capable of.
