Roy, are you near the south end or north end of that river. I spent about 4 months at the north end of it in Pennsylvania in 1993; starting about 4/18/93. I did a gas leakage survey there in Waverly, NY, South Waverly, PA, Sayre (the gas company office was in Sayre), Athens, Milan, Ulster, and Towanda. Those were the finest, friendliest people we found in all our travels. And that Spring, the river was flooding, they were pumping water out of the school basement, everyone was late planting crops, etc. They said they normally had fresh sweet corn (roasting ears) for July 4, but that year it was the middle of July before there was any at all. In fact, the 5th of June I sent a letter to my parents and mentioned the corn was only 4 or 5" high. However, before we left there, we had plenty of very good corn.

When doing gas leakage surveys, when a grade one leak is found, the gas company has to come and work on it immediately and continuously until it's either fixed or fixed so it's a lower grade. When I called one in, I usually expected someone there within an hour, although I have waited on them to respond as much as two hours. Thirty to forty-five minutes was common. But NOT the gas company in Sayre! One time, it took nearly 15 minutes for someone to respond and the guy got out of the truck apologizing for being so far off and taking so long. Usually they were there in 5 to 10 minutes. And everyone at the gas company, from the secretaries to the manager, treated me like I was family from the day I arrived.

You were north central PA. I'm about due south about 25 miles north of the Mason-Dixon line.
I'm about 6-8 miles from the Susquenhanna (as the crow flies) atop a hill. I'd put the elevation at least 60' to 80' above the river...no worries about flooding here!

Darn, Bird...you sure got around during your life!

There's much I haven't seen yet, but I've been in at least some part of every state but Hawaii, and of course, through four provinces of Canada and across the Mexican border in at least 4 places.:) I think I've been pretty lucky; met lots of good and interesting people.

Whew! Glad that one's kinda sorted out...

Now for a new one. People who really irritate me are the one's who squeeze the toothpaste from the middle instead of the bottom of the tube. Let me say that I'm neutral. I quit squeezing from the middle back in my 20's but my wife still squeezes it from the middle. She's trying to quit but it's a very tough habit to break. :) :) :)
