Sitting here on the porch and taking a page out of Bird's book, smoking. It is a pork loin. On CountryByNet, GareyD suggested smoking them to 140 degrees, then slicing thin and frying like bacon. Since BLT season is fast approaching, I figured I would give it a try so I wouldn't be paying $3 to $4 a pound for the aforementioned bacon.

RoyJackson, are you getting any of this much needed liquid sunshine down your way?

We are getting a little right now up here in the NW corner. We are down 3" to 4" up here so I'm trying up to complain we'll have a damp 4th picnic.

You got that right; we've been around long enough and had enough experience to know what we're talking about.;) Sometimes.

I've smoked pork loins and sure do like them, but I've never tried that recipe.

We were down to only a 60% chance of rain in the forecast today, so I went about 25 miles to a daughter's place and mowed her yard (tall, wet grass), then about two-thirds of the way home, I drove through a small downpour, got home and it's just hot, humid, and sunny here so far.

Great! Now Fox News is warning about how grilling food can cause cancer. Seems no matter what you do you are going to get some sort of cancer from it.

I have taken note of that fact. I laugh every time someone quotes statistics saying you have a 40% greater chance of dying if you do this or a 25% greater risk of dying if you do that. To the best of my knowledge, we are all terminal.

Oh, NO! I thought those doctors said if I quit smoking, I'd be immortal and live forever. Of course, if it isn't smoking, it's because you're too fat, and if you're skinny, it's because you don't get enough exercise . . . or is it too much exercise?

About 20 years ago, there was one little study published that said cops who retire at 50, on average die at 53. So I decided I'd better get out of there before I turned 50. I guess it worked.:D

That's actually been known (or suspected) for many years. If I recall, it's charcoal grilling that, when the meat is grilled, leaves a carcinogen in the charred parts of the steak.

The researchers grilled a bunch of steaks to test...proved out their theory...then ate the steaks.

Bandybear, it's raining on and off...gentle rain actually. But the Susquehanna Valley area is under a tornado watch until 10:00 PM (2200 for you military guys).
Seems too cool for tornados...
