i didn't know there was a "float" feature on the FEL? Is this specific to certain loaders?

Pretty much all modern (10 years old or so) have this feature.

My new B26 seems to work differently as it will only float when the bucket is level on the ground. If I try and put the slightest angle on the bucket, say to scrape ice off of the drive, it will not float and just digs in and raises the front of the tractor, put it back to level and it floats. Kinda crazy isn't it? Maybe I should question my dealer regarding it. :)

That is quite normal, mine does the same thing. It has nothing to do with the "float" feature of the valve, but rather the geometry of the whole loader.

Mornin Kenny,
For what its worth I have the float feature on my old 1986
MF 1040. So I would imagine the manufacturer came up with this idea some time ago ! ;)

My Dad's International 966 (circa 1971) had float on the hydraulics as well. This was a dual-valve set-up.

Mike,

I set my FEL level (using level indicator rod on it), because my driveway is pretty much level all the way. Set it on float.

If your driveway is paved and over 1 year old, you won't have to worry about the FEL harming it. Less than one year: you might want to buy a heater hose, slit down one side and slide it over the edge of the FEL.

I still use the FEL at times but my rear blade is great for moving the snow. Cheap, only $250.
