What is the good info on chute drive - I see on the Puma website they have a new gear drive. Does the older cable drive work ok ? Some dealers have leftover 04/05 models.

I had the same question. I saw a new blower with the cable that worked great but was heavily greased. Then I saw others not greased that wouldn't even turn. It seems grease is the key.

Grease is the key for both types of chute rotation. If the swivel surface is not greased it will quickly rust and bind. You just notice it more w/ cables. Use a good water resistant grease, a marine product for example.

Mine works just fine, even after being loaded up with snow. The is a white plastic like swivel base that the chute rotates on. You can see it in the picture.

I only lube my cable with with lithium spray on lube at the start of each season.

Well we did'nt get the volume deal going yet but I had to run up and grab a Puma, they only had one left, a leftover 04/05 for $ 1,700.

v twin kicker - You might still be able to hook up with ttowne and/or jwease. There are still some 5' around, I think about $ 1,550.

EDIT: We should all team up when we buy cabs !

jwease, ttowne and everyone else -thanks again for the help, Larry

Hey Larry,

What is the 5 footer for $1550, that a Puma? What dealer? If the drive isn't too much I may look into it. By me I have Meteor and maybe a Blizzard for ~ $2000, The Lucknow is $1795. thanks!

I was looking for 6' so I did'nt ck on 5' but:

Kennedy tractor, rt 13, Westdale, north of Camden, 315-965-1161 till 5:00 2 - 5' Agrotrend = $ 1,550 (maybe 1,500). leftovers?

Gary's equip, Syracuse, Rt 31 just west of 81 exit, 1-800-427-8072. Easy to get get to - Autobaun all the way. I did'nt ask but it looked like a couple of 5' Puma there. $ 1,500? leftovers?

I bought mine at Gary's. jwease pointed me that way- a little cheaper. You could jump on the thruway and be at Gary's pretty quick.

Let us know how you make out, Larry

P.S.-Lake effect starts tonite- ttowne & sailtrac will prob get 2' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

By one day I missed the deal of a lifetime on a 68 in Meteor. One season of use and in great shape. $1250. Called the guy on Sat and looked at it alone on Monday. Called him Monday night but he said he already sold it and took a $300 down payment. I actually called him back and offered $1400 but he said he would feel bad about renigging on the deal, I asked if the guy was a good guy or an a-hole but he said the guy was a real good guy. So, I guess he deserved the good deal!

Looked at a JRW today. I suppose they are all likely good blowers and will have to spend around $2000 no matter what. Oh well!

Yep, I've been there before. Accually, when I walked up to the counter at Garys yesterday, I told the lady I wanted to buy the 6' blower she said " it's sold". I told her I had called a few hours earlier she said " oh, you'r the guy". Pheeew

As of monday there was still a 6' Puma at kennedys - $ 1,750. Not a bad price.
