Like a fool, I accidentally dry fired by bow today while warming up for an afternoon hunt. Had so much on my mind, I didn't knock an arrow, drew, aimed and THACK! I feel like such a fool and this is one of those things that once you do it, you will never do it again.

Rut is kicking up here and my bow is out of service. My bow shop is closed for a week and then who knows what it needs to be fixed. As far as I can tell, it needs a string only. Not sure if a cam needs replacing. I'll have them inspect it. What a terrible feeling. I can't believe I did that......

Find another bow shop ......
You can fix that bow yourself, it's not rocket science.
Get a bow press and a new string and get to fixing. Most likely you don't need new limbs.
It takes some patience but you can get it lined up yourself too. You can have everything you need delivered, buy it on line. There are lots of you tube videos to get you started.

I've shot over two dozen different types of big game animals around the world and nothing tastes better then Axis deer!!!!!

While I agree with the comments that how you take care of the meat will affect the final taste of it, there is also a huge difference in flavor of the animal based on what it eats, and where it lives. I've had whitetail from the Texas that was extremely tasty, and whitetail from Wyoming that wasn't very good at all. I've never found a mule deer that was any good at all. I've tried quite a few different ways to hide the flavor and finally just gave up and make them all into summer sausage. Elk is always good!!!! Just like our different types of game, Africa is the same. Some taste a lot better then others!!!

Eddie

That's funny, Eddie; my favorite deer so far is the Mule deer. That thing was cooked up out of the freezer in a month flat by my wife (she usually does not do the game cooking). Like you said, it depends on what they eat. I hunt the high alpine country in Colorado, 9000 ft and up to 12,000 ft. This has lots of prairie grasses and absolutely zero sage. My cousin hunts the lower country and talks about the sagey taste and doesn't like the mule deer he's had from those areas either.

Man I miss my beagles! There isn't a better sound than a pack of those guys chasing a rabbit.
But boy oh boy, they just won't quit huntinng! I remember having to pick ours up and carry it home. In the winter, my buddy and i would hunt rabbits with bows. Never hit one on the run, close hits, but when they stopped and standing still not to bad. One problem was finding the arrows.....:( didn't matter if you hit the rabbit or not, the arrows would often be found next spring, after the snow melted.

We never tried bow huntin them. But I used to make my dad use a .22 because he wouldn't ever miss with a shotgun. After taking a few friends from high school along with us, I was soon asked by more kids from school to take them, they really took a liking to it. Sometimes my dad and I would take a pack of hot dogs and buns in a back pack and start a campfire and just listen to the dogs all night. It really doesn't get any better than that!

You are right about them not quitting, they are persistent little hounds! If it was time to go and one of the dogs didn't come back, you could leave your shirt on the ground next to where the truck was parked and he would be curled up asleep on the shirt the next morning when you came back, guaranteed. You can learn a lot about yourself and your relationship with your dogs chasing those dudes around the country. To this day, I still like beagles the best!
