Old iron ore mines possible sometimes show up in the general area, if that answers the previous question

There are some in the area, but don’t think this lot was mined.

Stopped by the lot today while driving thru. Ended up talking to a neighbor for 45 minutes. Lots of deer on camera, day and night.

And they are running fiber optic.

Saw on the website the diggings dot com there were old aluminum and iron mines to the south east of the lot, maybe 1-2 miles away.

kicking around some thoughts.

Was looking online at these Amish mini cabins. They want $120k for a 13 x 31 finished and installed. They are RV certified, whatever that means. Pretty simple inside. I know I can put up an unfinished shell that size for $5-6k with my labor.
For their cabin I still need to put in foundation, septic.
A decent sized cabin, like a 2 part modular with a loft runs over $200k.
You pay for having it instant.

I just discovered this now after reading WCD house build.
If you are considering the above, why not just get a modular (not mobile home)? I think the price would be better and you could get more sq. ft.
8x12 bedroom is tiny.

WCD is an awesome place. Today I was watching Mike Morgan’s video on a timber frame pavilion and thinking that with SIP walls that would make a great cabin.
I’m looking for something small to stay in for a few days at a time, not to live in. Also $$$. To put in a modular I’d have to sell my existing house to pay for it. I don’t want a mortgage payment.
If we did decide to permanently move there, a place to stay while I build a bigger place. If it’s a mobile type mini house I could sell it later.

I’m just thinking out loud right now, and appreciate feedback.

Sometimes I wish I had gone with the WV property, much less permit hassles.

I was thinking in terms of expanding the sq ft of the Amish plan, not by a huge amount, maybe adding 5-6 ft L and W.
Then, still cabin size, but a little more breathing room inside. It could be stick built pretty easily and cheaper depending on how you finish it.

I am going to start getting my ducks in a row to build. I have been sitting on 54 acres in NC for over 10 years now. Things ($$) fell into place when I sold off my properties in NJ. Going to go log home.

Yes, if I frame it, it will be bigger.
The problem is building it myself 4 hours away. I do have a camper I could set up at the lot. Once I get house building permit, I can get temp electric installed.
First I need driveway, water well, which might be this year’s projects.

This is my current house I built myself. Course I was younger.

A couple years ago I built a 24x24 garage addition. I told myself if my dad could build a house by himself, I can easily do a garage by myself.

As I was hauling half bundles of shingles up onto the roof for the umpteenth time and my legs were giving out, it occurred to me that my dad was in his late 30s/early 40s when he did it. I was 60. Oh! 🤣

One of the main things I'd be concerned about building something that was 4 hours away would be finding long stretches of time to be able to spend at the site.
