Actually I will be using it on some slopes around here. Today looking at one sitting on a 4010 didn't appear to have anymore clearance that what I have. The few holes I have used it on didn't cause any problems yet. They are dangerous regardless what they are on.

Doesn't it drag in places with only 6" of clearance ?

I have the SpeeCo PHD that I bought from TSC with a 9" auger. It's been about a year since I last used it, but am planning to do so again this weekend (if the weather holds out). I seem to recall that I used the hole closest to the tractor to give it more height. The PHD main post hits the plastic body cover at full lift hight. The middle hole would allow the auger to drag, just a bit.
I don't find it to be too difficult to hook it up, I've done it by myself several times. I do remove the auger each time.
I seem to recall when looking for PHD's that I a saw a stand offered by one manufacturer. There was a picture on their website. Might be a good starting place to give you ideas to build your own.

Doc, not yet anyway. I figured that I would tip the auger with the handle if I was going up and incline where it might hit..

Bill, you are correct. The hole that is nearer to the tractor will lift it the highest. I found a picture of a stand for one but from looking at it I still get the feeling that it won't be easy. I think the best would be a way to hang it from a chain where it balances well. If the weather here in mid Michigan will finally take a break I will get around to coming up with something.

deere x475guy,

Nice spread you have there. The log cabin looks great. Is that a geared metal lathe you have set up there?

JD Fanatic, thanks! We bought the property last April. Had the pole barn built right away and in September the logs arrived. We moved in December 23rd. I still have all the logs to caulk and 3 coats of finish to do yet. Plus a lot of landscaping. Yes that is 13 x 40 gear head from WT tools in Detroit.

I like to spend any spare time I have in the shop machining or welding. Two years ago I designed and built a bucket to go on the front of my JDx 475 that I had at the time.

Here is a link to an article that Farm Show Magazine did on it. web page
