No, it is a real problem. I was working in the boat house and had to wait a good half hour for fumes to get out of there after I warmed the tractor up in there for like 5 minutes with the doors wide open and tractor sitting just in front of the opening.

If someone knows where to get a proper hose to route the exhaust outdoors like all shops use I'd appreciate it.

Is it ok if I pump the exhaust into your new addition after it's all closed up?

I wouldn't want to run my tractor for 5 minutes inside anything. Just bump it up a couple hundred rpms and ease it outside aftera few seconds, it's ok, honest ask your dealer. But I found a couple of hose suppliers in NH, I don't know where you are located in the state but here are a couple.

Manchester hose & coupling

Omni hose & tool crib

Londonderry, NH 03053

[SIZE=-1] Tell them what you are doing. It doesn't have to be super high temp stuff. We used dryer vent when we worked on the 4cyl race car, but it would shred after a little while with that high compression engine.
If you want to run it wot inside then you will want to put a section of metal tubing so the exhaust has a little more time to cool. It will help to have some sort of blower to suck the exhaust through especially if it's a long hose run.

This whole thread is fixing a problem that doesn't exist. Y'all have too much time on yer hands....

If you're being facetious, ha ha.

If you're being serious, it is not up to you to decide whether this is a problem or not. If the original poster says it's a problem for him, then it's a problem for him. If you don't like a polite conversation that's going on between other members, then stay out of the conversation.

Get a rubber flex hose. Much easier to handle than steel. I got one at an auto parts store some years ago. Auto shops use them.

Cut a round piece of wood the size of inside diameter of hose. Bore a hole the size of the exhaust. Insert the wood into the hose and screw it in. Works perfect. I did this to prevent soot buildup on the ceiling. My 1910 has a vertcal stack. Not a problem on the other tractors.

It just dawned on me:
If starting a boat in there wasn't a problem then why is starting a tractor there one?== L B ==

I don't drive the Kubota in from the Lake Side with it's exhaust shooting out the back (towards the water).

The last time a boat was in there was probably a 1950's ChrisCraft (which is all that would fit meaning very narrow) when nobody cared or knew what harm the fumes would do even if the fumes did accumulate in there.

You also don't need to warm up a boat for 5 minutes in the middle of the summer.

The water side is closed for the winter.

Should I go on?

1*I doubt the tractor would start under water=You might say it's flooded.;)
2*I don't know-did you leave anything out?:D

The exhuast from the 2 - 5 minutes it takes to drive in and let it idle down won't kill the birds.

I would however urge building some bird houses outside and sealing openings with screen to keep birds out and still let exhaust out. Your tractor's paint will thank you.

Easier to build a few pine birdhouses than mess with hose everytime you start your tractor or hurt your back pushing a tractor around.

As long as it runs and isn't stuck, You won't catch me pushing a tractor of any size. It's like skydiving, why jump out of perfectly good plane,

I guess this could be a problem if you're warming up the tractor for 5 minutes before you back it out. I'm not sure I understand why you're doing that. The tractor certainly won't care if it gets gently moved while warming up. Just a slightly different situation, the car manufacturers do not recommend idling to warm up as that does nothing for differentials, bearings, etc. They suggest just driving gently for the first few miles. My garage is in my basement. I never run my tractor more than a couple of minutes inside and that would only be to install the BH or FEL. If the boathouse were mine, I'd just start the tractor, back it out and let the birds, the tractor and my back be happy.
BUT! It ain't my tractor, my boathouse, my birds, my back, or my problem!:D :D:D You'd be best served by ignoring anything I have to say and doing what you feel is right!

The Boat house *IS* the bird house and as far as I'm concerned I'm the guest. The tractor will be fine, I'll cover it if I have to when they are around. They have been coming there for a 100 years and I have only owned the property for 4 years. I figure who am I to kick them out. I want to impact them as little as possible, they are like family. Having them soar all around the property all summer is a real treat (sometimes I sit and watch them for hours at the opening to the boat house and the just buzz you). They are barn swallows not common Chickadees, they like to live in "Barns" not bird houses, they think the boat house is a barn :).
