Is it ok if I pump the exhaust into your new addition after it's all closed up?

No but you can definitely harass any swallows that try to nest in it.

If you're being serious, it is not up to you to decide whether this is a problem or not... yada....

Thanks a heap Rambo. I reckon somebody decided it was up to you to decide whether I get to decide....

I am with you on keeping the swallows unmolested. 5 minutes of idling in a small space like that could kill a bird that stays in there (not to mention it's bad for you to be in there) not that they are likely to stay while you are idling in there but the young in the nest could have trouble.
I am not trying to criticize you or anything but I am curious about how you came to the conclusion that you can't move your tractor until the gauge moves?

The Boat house *IS* the bird house and as far as I'm concerned I'm the guest. The tractor will be fine, I'll cover it if I have to when they are around. They have been coming there for a 100 years and I have only owned the property for 4 years. I figure who am I to kick them out. I want to impact them as little as possible, they are like family. Having them soar all around the property all summer is a real treat (sometimes I sit and watch them for hours at the opening to the boat house and the just buzz you). They are barn swallows not common Chickadees, they like to live in "Barns" not bird houses, they think the boat house is a barn :).

"Barn" swallows existed before barns did. They adapted to living in barns. They can be quite comfortable in a birdhouse, just build it barn shaped. I have done it. I like the birds around, but they don't belong in my buildings making a mess of my things. Would you let them live in your house too?

I've converted my boathouse into a shed (filled in part of the floor where boat would go). It's a pretty good size about size of a roomy one car garage.

Any way, barn swallows nest in there in the late spring. We've been living in harmony for many years and don't want to harm them or scare them away even though they will surely get some poop on the new tractor.

I'd like to avoid pumping fumes into the boathouse when it starts up. I'm not as concerned about the noise (they have been pretty tough with noises).

But fumes might linger a bit.

I'm sure shops that work on these in winter have something to pump fumes out doors.

Can anyone recommend what to use?

Can the tractor be pushed very easily on solid ground (just a few feet)?

I park my car in my garage. Every morning I start it and drive out. Do you push your car out too?

My BX Manuals Say:
Do not operate the tractor under full load conditions until it is sufficiently warmed up.

I construe full load conditions to be operating the FEL back hoe mower other attachment etc. before the tractor is sufficiently warmed up.

I do not perceive moving the tractor a short distance at 1/2 or less throttle while warming up as operating under full load.

I would simply start the tractor, drive it out the Dang door, park it and let it run the remainder of the warm up period=Problem Solved.

Another thing I would do is put a ceiling in the boat house.
Card board, screen wire, even stapling plastic to the underside of the rafters/roof trusses would do much to prevent or lessen bird droppings on the tractor stored in there.

The advantage of the ceiling is you don't have to remove and install the tarp every time you use the tractor.
You install the ceiling once but the tarp continuously.

PS
Probably by misunderstanding the tractor starting instructions in the tractor manual.

If he does he's probably glad he don't have a tractor trailer truck and a couple of dump trucks and a motor home or 2 in there.:D

Other people were having a polite discussion. You came along and basically told everyone involved in this thread that their conversation was meaningless. Does it really surprise you that someone dared respond to you by telling you that if you don't want to be part of a constructive conversation, staying out of it is a better choice? Do you really think name calling and using eye rolling faces in a public forum is going to make anyone take you more seriously? What if this were not cyberspace? If you were actually standing in front of a dozen other men who were having this discussion, would you speak up and say these same things aloud straight to their faces, or do you only do so because you are safely anonymous somewhere in cyberspace?
