OK, how about the guy that jumped around all the time and threw rocks? He was also on Sid Ceasar's 'Your Show of Shows'?

The actor's name was Howard Morris.

In addition to playing Ernest T. Bass, didn't he direct and write some of the scripts also?

Yes he did. Actually that was his main "job." I saw a thing a while back. Everyone knows Ernest T., but he was only in something like 3 or 4 episodes. It was originally done as a one time thing, but got such good reaction they kept him around. The actor actually wrote all of his own little poems/phrases that he would say in the show.

Hi Bird
so fresh is best ,with that in mind i would have thought in a case like this (something worth more than $1000)getting a good set of prints would be high on the list of must do's..

ejb,

Where I live out in the country we only have State Police - no township police. Makes for some very eager cops though - any call to the police quickly results in some fresh-faced, buzz-cut troopers roaring up from the State Police Barracks.

The townships in the area are a different story. Quite a few that I drive through have speed traps right on the township line. The cops seem to spend all their time on traffic violations - and not much on the petty crime in the towns.

I rarely see the State Troopers setting up speed traps - but we do get occasional complaints about petty criminals getting roughed up by them. We also have had one or two individuals shot and killed by the State Troopers in the area in recent years when they tried to hold up gas stations.

Everyone I know that lives in the local townships is all for turning over policing to the State Troopers! Perhaps that's the answer in your area too!?

Yeah, JD, I'd say fresh is best. I think there are lots of misconceptions about fingerprints. While they're great evidence to present in court, until recent times, they didn't help a lot in solving a case until you had a suspect. Only infrequently are you lucky enough to find a complete set of all 5 fingers to classify and compare against sets on file. And to compare partial prints against those on file was an unbelievably slow and nearly impossible task. Now with some of the new computer programs, it's getting better. But of course, collecting fingerprints, as with any other physical evidence is important, and in my opinion, worth spending a little time on.

When I lived in Hillsborough Co. (Tampa) FL. I had my tools stolen out of my van. The responding officer fingerprinted the van. I guess all the cops there are taught to lift prints.

In Washington County, Maryland. Most of the local police are county sheriffs. They usually live in the area they patrol so they become a familar face. They are backed up by the State Troopers. We are fortunate in that we have one that lives in our neighborhood. Keeps the riff-raff away (well, that along with the neighbors watching for trouble). Very few of the small towns have their own police because they do not have the budget to pay for a police force.
