This one's for all the Sub CUT owners out there who do a lot of dirt work. My tractor came in with the turf tires, and because the tractor is such a new model, my dealer wasn't able to get it with the bar tires and still can't get them from Case yet. I'm noticing that when doing a lot of dirt moving with the FEL, those turf flotation tires seem to do an awful lot of flexing and squooshing around. The traction has been fine so far, as I stay out of the dirt on rainy days. But I know from past experience that at some point, traction will become an issue with those tires.

For those of you running unfilled bar tires in the 18-8.50-8 and 26-12-12 sizes, do you notice that same amount of flexing of the front tires when moving a full FEL around? I'm thinking of trying a set that my neighbor took off his BX22. I also want to see how they do mowing. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep them (if I like them) as he would like to keep them around for when he may need them, so if they do work, I may need to get my own set.

I just have turf tires on my bx2200. I have been doing mostly dirt work with this tractor. I had some traction problems when pulling up an old gravel drive way with my FEL and box blade. I added some rear tire chains and that made a big difference with traction in the mud. I run about 12 lbs of air pressure and the fronts do flex a little, not sure this is a bad thing. Some owners also have two sets of tires and rims. A set of rear tire chains will run around $100, new set of tires and wheels around $300-350.

I have both turf and bar tires for my BX22, and have never used the turfs. I have the rear tires filled with beet juice and have never had a problem pushing or pulling anything with them. I see no need for tire chains to date, but when I install the snow blower this winter, I will find out how well it handles. I have a rear weigh box filled with 600 pounds of lead for ballast when using the tractor without the hoe installed. The front tires do flatten out a little when the loader is filled with rocks. No problem at all with just dirt. The BX uses 4 ply rated tires. I know that you can purchase both 6 & 8 ply rated tires for the front, but the price is steep for the extra plies. I have not had many problems with the bar tires on the turf as long as the turf is dry. If I go onto the turf in the early morning when the grass is wet from dew, it can easily be damaged and tufts pulled out. If I were to have only one set of tires, it would be the bars. If I ever finish all the backhoe and loader work, I will put the turfs on for grass cutting. I intend to hydro seed in the fall a couple of acres, so I will probably have to have the turfs on for the initial first few cuts of the new grass.

I only have turfs on my TC18, with a full FEL I've had them flatten out to the point where I can just feel rims hit the ground on the bumps. I haven't broke anything yet, but it doesn't seem that that would be too good for the sidewall of the tire.

My front turfs are also 4 ply. The rears are nice and stiff, and I have no real complaints about them. But last night while doing some digging and turning with a full loader on uneven terrain, I got a bit nervous when I saw what the front tires were doing.

I initially thought one of the tires was going flat, but it was at 21.5 psi when warm. The max cold is 22, so I inflated them to 23 (they were pretty warm by then) and the flex lessened significantly. I think I'll have to keep them right at 22psi cold for loader work. If I do switch over to the bars, I figure the turfs will have to go back on for a while this fall when I lay a bunch of grass seed down and start mowing the new grass.

Sounds like even the front bars flex a bit with a good load in the bucket. Maybe I just need to get a 6 ply turf tire for the fronts. My neighbor and I have been considering buying a set of rims to put the extra set of bar tires on, then we can both swap out the bars whenever we need them. Guess I have something to think about.

Another option might be to get the front tires foam filled.

The foam would add a little weight, but not that much since the tires are pretty small to begin with. I have the fronts on my B2910 foam filled and like the result. They are R4s though...

It is possible you could fill the existing turf tires for less than buying something with a stiffer side wall. And you would never have to worry about a flat or the tire bead coming off the rim under heavy load... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I guess you can see I am real happy with the foam filled front tires on my B2910... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If I had a loader on my BX I would probably fill the front tires on it as well...turfs there...

Do the foam filled tires flex and cushion like air filled tires or are they just round and hard??

I don't think they cushion like air...but there is some give to them and there is a little bounce to them.

Hard for me to say more because I got them foam filled the second day I had the tractor. Glass down back was too much for the the front tires to deal with...guess it was the local dumping spot back back when there was no garbage pickup years ago...

I am thinking of getting a set of bar tires for the bx and foam filling all four, for the sake of greater stability on my back hillside...even though the BX seems real stable as is...

Now I am wondering if I spelled stable right...one of the perils of answering a junkman question perhaps? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (may be an inside joke... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

The many articles I've read on this subject say that it's good to run a little low/correct as long as you have radial tires, but don't do it with bias ply tires as the sidewall won't hold up. Only run Bias Ply tires at full recommended PSI. John
