Synthetic Oil in Tractors and Trucks

/ Synthetic Oil in Tractors and Trucks #51
This is not in response to any comments that anybody has made but I would like to clarify a few things: Diesel Power made no attempt to solicit my business, I called him, he told me the products that they sold, he was courteous and polite. I then looked at the Texas Refinery Corp web site, called my friend Jack from Texas who is in the oil business and his comment: A long standing reputable company that sells quality products. I then placed my order, it arrived two days later. End of story...............

Actually Amsoil does have API licensed oils. No they currently do not have a CJ-4 licensed oil but from what I have read they do plan to release one soon. You can view Amsoil's API license's here at the API license directory. http://eolcs.api.org/DisplayLicenseInfo.asp?LicenseNo=0995 and their API license number is 0995.

I know you didn't say that & I didn't mean to imply that . I was just asking if you could tell me how amsoil was a pyramid .

Certainly..because the MAJOR oil companys DONT RETAIL. I cant call Kabota DIRECT and buy a tractor either! And if you cant find the product you seek at a "store"...then I suggest you start shopping at a better quality store..or at least a store that sells the TYPE of product you wish to purchase. ( Ya know..once in a while when your at the .....store..you MIGHT just see something ELSE you really need??

Some folkes can't buy power direct .It is bought through a co-op

If you can't buy a kubota direct , then , it must b a pyramid sales plan Cause youn ain't buying direct, you go through a middle man ( dealer )

I did look at the Amsoil page and did not see any API listing on the diesel oils. You seem to be more knowledgeable on this than I, can you point out where they are? Thanks.

There seems to be a discussion on pyramid scheme selling and Amsoil. I used to be a amsoil dealer in the 70's. It was a pyramid scheme as you had to buy thru a set chain of people that got a cut for doing nothing. The game was to get as many people under you so you could rake in more cash. It was sold as being EXACTLY like Amway. You couldn't buy product from a brick and mortar store, nor from the factory direct. There was always a drive to get more people in so you could make more $$. Anytime a sales pitch starts out with a drawing of a pyramid showing the effects of getting more people under you, it looks like a pyramid scheme. At least to me.

The 70's were a long time ago - disco came and went. I don't know what model they use to sell oil. I do see it in stores now. That's a change.

These are the only products in the entire portfolio that are API certified.

For reference, Ace Hardware and Albertsons have more API certified products than Amsoil.

I didn't say they had alot, I just said they do have API licensed oils. :)

As far as why they don't have more I would direct you to a Amsoil salesman to explain it in detail. My understanding is that they feel the current API standards require to low of a level of some additives. The whole reason they do have the few API oils they have is to give consumers the choice to use either the API licensed oils or their "better" oils that they feel are better than API spec.

As far as Amsoil being a pyramid sales style, it might be. I have never bought their oil so I'm not sure how their pricing structure is set up. I just know that TRC oil is not, it can only be ordered directly from the factory in Fort Worth, TX if your in the USA (other than a few Napa stores I have seen over the years that buy and resell it on their own).

D.P ,
You are correct API has their standards for oil additive levels. Amsoil adds more additives . than API specs. call for so, they ( API ) won't certify the oil.
even though Amsoil's specs. are better than or above what API calls for

They continued that same practice all the way to the mid 90's...because I have a motorhomeing close friend that sold the stuff! At some point they changed SLIGHTLY..and now you CAN buy "direct"..all you have to do is pay $$ and become a "member"! ( What a joke!!)

"If you are only interested in purchasing product for your own use at a 25% discount you may register for $10.00 for six months or $20.00 for one year. This is similar to a wholesale purchasing relationship with a discount store like Sam's Club or Costco.

Ten dollars gets you a six-month trial Preferred Customer membership for buying AMSOIL products at wholesale prices. Here is what Preferred Customers get:

1. Preferred Customers buy AMSOIL products at wholesale prices. If you buy $100 of AMSOIL products a year, a Preferred Customer membership will save you money!
2. Preferred Customers receive an information kit on AMSOIL products and the monthly AMSOIL product, racing and application magazine, the AMSOIL Action News.
3. Preferred Customer memberships may be renewed indefinitely for only $20/year.
4. Preferred Customers can register for 6 or 12 months and may upgrade to an AMSOIL Dealership at any time."

Ive NEVER seen in MY LIFE..an product that was worth spending ANYTHING on...even the "as seen on TV microwave bacon cooker" ( there trurly is such a device...lol) that wont sell on its own merits. Advertise it..and then stand back!

Since Red Line, Royal Purple and Amsoil are the top rated oils, and Amsoil is the least expensive of the three, their "pyramid" scheme sure hurts the end buyer doesn't it. If the fella who is soooo concerned about a "middle man" would please explain how he avoids dealers in buying food, clothing, autos, trucks, etc. etc., I wish he'd please tell. Otherwise, this constant rant about Amsoil makes someone look foolish.

I only bought it once to try a top quality oil, and it was far less expensive than the other top two. There again, I don't have the connections as the one fella who only buys directly from factories on everything. Maybe I'll see him at the scales buying grain at season's end. You know, that way he'll cut out the "middle" food manufacturers and grocery stores. ;)
