Here in NYS DMV wants to replace the lincense plates and charge us to do it. I got 6 things keep plates on and paying the fees is gonna kill me next year since I still haven't found a job yet.

Our plates have gone down since the lottery but not sure how the economy will affect that. They are going to get you one way or another. Being a pilot I travel a lot and look at the stickers on gas pumps. Around here we pay about $.40 per gallon tax. Some place I travel to it 1/2 that or less.

Trailer Tags are about the only thing reasonable in CA... something like $18 for 5 years.

Vehicle Tags continue to increase... trucks are especially hard hit on weight fees...

I've gone non-op on most of my cars... so the State is getting less from me since it raised the fees.

The year I left California (2007), the tags on my 04 F350 would have been $425.00. The fee in Missouri was $59.00 and that included a weight tag. The tags for my wife's minivan would have been around $107.00 each year in California. Missouri killed me on that one, $56.00--for 2 years! Now you know why I left California! Mike.

Kentucky is not too bad for license fees but they do have a advalorem tax.

"The Motor Vehicle Property Tax is a constitutional advalorem (in proportion to the value) tax levied on personal property."

I don't have the numbers in front of me right now but I just renewed my wife's 04 Caddy CTS. If I recall correctly, the county valued it at around 11,500. Total was 194.62. My 92' F150 cost me 25.00 to renew but has no tax basis any more.

Farm tags are 31.00 and trailer plates which are not manditory run 27.00.

States need to get their money one way or the other. You need to consider your regular income, any pension or SS, taxes on that income, sales tax, property tax, etc., etc.

Serious?
you're whining about that?
You aren't even in the same class

Colorado:

2006 Chevy 2500HD (total stripper, even has crank windows)

2006 tags: $550
2007 tags: $500
2008 tags: $400
2009 tags: $250 (will need an emissions test next year, $60)

1994 Toyota 2wd PU (worth about $500): 2009 tags $58 PLUS emissions test ($40)

2003 PJ Trailer: 2009 tags: $55

2007 NH L185 SS. 2009 tags: $600
2007 NH TN75 2009 tags: $500
2007 NH TC45 2009 tags: $500

2003 Freightliner Columbia (colorado only, under 10k miles). 2009 tags: $1100, plus emissions test: $160

2000 TK70HT trailer (for freightlienr above): 2009 tags: $95 (best deal in the bunch)

1999 Mack RD688 (colo only, 15k miles) 2009 tags: $2200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plus emissions test, $160

My 2006 Chevy 2500 HD CC, duramax, fancy schmancy truck was $800 the first year. (sold since)

And yes, here, commercial tractors need license plates.

2010 will all be more for most of them, they all went up $30 to $60 each in July. (to pay for roads, right:mad:, they will all pay for bicycle lanes or something else that doesn't pay taxes and won't actually improve the roads)

$190, I'd give my left (*$ to only pay that little.

watch out for the ddrivers license renewal in florida too. was 32 now 54. expecting my tag renewal in the mail box any day now mine should be about the same as yours.

When comparing tag and license fees between FL and other states, keep in mind FL doesn't have a state income tax. :)

Here my car cost 24.67 to register. the lowest possible for the year. (1992). But the 30 dollar a year 'temp surcharge' more than doubled it. Good news is its "temporary' So the legislatures will take it off in the future.

sorry to burst your bubble but there is nothing more permanent than something temporary.

what are you guys complaining about.

my tag costs 225 a year for each vehicle and my liscense costs me 80 bucks a year and the government takes 40% of the money I make in a year but atleast we hae free healthcare!

And I thought Texas (which also has no state income tax) was high.

When I registered a couple of trailers, a 6' x 16' and a 5' x `12', as farm trailers, the tags were $5 each, but here in town a couple of years ago, a little 4' x 8' trailer tag cost me $42.75.

Three years ago, our 2001 Windstar tags cost $64.30
This year, our 2001 Ford Ranger tags cost $58.16
This year, our 2002 Ford Crown Victoria tags cost $54.30

Of course, the annual "safety inspection" which includes emissions testing costs $39.75 for each vehicle.

And my wife just renewed her drivers license for another 6 years. It would have been $24, but she paid an extra dollar to be able to do it on the Internet with a credit card instead of going in to the DPS office.

Overall, from what you other folks have posted, I guess we're lucky.

i live in SC and i have 2 older trucks. My new truck:) is a 1990 ford ranger and my old truck in a 1980 chevy k10. Now im not sure what you guys are calling tags so i will break my bills down for tax and tag. The tax on my 1990 ranger is somewhere around $12/yr and the tag fee is every other year and is like $22 or $24, the chevy is about the same taxes in the 10-$12/yr range and a tag fee of about $24 every other year.

So say in march, my ranger is up for tag renewal as well as taxes my bill would be say around $35 for the both but the next year after that i would not pay the tag fee since i paid it the year befor and they are 2 year fees, so my renewal would be around $12 for just property taxes. (chevy has farm tags, which i think are renewed each year and are cheaper so i guess there like $10/yr for my weight rating )
