So how would one of the bucket grapples work picking up dead medium cedar trees?

PineRidge,
I really like yours being 48" wide. Using three teeth seems a pretty good idea. Is there any reason to make a cover plate to protect the hydraulic cylinder and lines like I've seen on some models?

Is there someplace that sells those curved arms (teeth)? Or do I have to get them made like you did? Maybe I'll bite the bullit and conventional cut them myself using x-y coordinates....old technology Ha ha.

I've used this place ACS Steel for a couple of projects and everything they've done for us turned out exactly as ordered with a reasonably quick turn-around time. I just sent them my autocad files.

Besides the twisting issue already mentioned, weight could also be a concern, as the heavier it is, the less weight you could pick up overall. It would also make removal more dificult.

Just my opinion...

I like the small grapple with my rock bucket. I can pull the pins and snatch the jaws and cylinder off because they just weigh around 50 lb. Also, I have yet to find anything I can't clamp down on enough to lift with my narrow jaw including rocks that were so big my loader would hardly lift them. I didn't want to do a lot of welding, so buying the grapple as-is was ideal for me. For someone else, they may completely different needs and abilities. You just have to suit your own situation and use. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
