Kubota BX25
Last night I crashed the two day old BX25 into the garage door (which we just got this year). The BX was unharmed except for a few minor scratches, but the garage door and frame was completely destroyed. While we were removing the door, it started pouring rain. So we had to try to find tarps to cover the BX, but they were all too small. We tried the best we could to dry it of with rags, but I hope water did not get into the controls. Getting back to the accident...Our garage doors are 8'x8', but the opening is smaller. When I rolled up the door last night (we don't have an opener) the door did not go all the way up, so there was about six inches - a foot that was in the opening. When I pulled out I was looking at the sides to make sure the mower deck would not hit the frame, and I never looked up...Needless to say, I don't think I'll be driving the tractor anymore. (at least for a while) Now all I keep thinking about is all the attachments I could buy for what it is going to cost to replace the door...

Poor guy! Don't feel too bad, the door is fixable and nobody got hurt. I doubt the rain will harm the tractor. If the door went all the way up would you have cleared? Sounds like that is the case so you at least won't have to worry about doing it again.

Oh man, that stinks. I did that exact same thing with mine. I was watching the MMM and forgot about the ROPS. The door and frame are repairable.

As for the BX getting wet, don't worry about it. The dealer lots are full of tractors that get rained on. These things are tough.

You'll still be able to get implements, you just have to wait a bit longer. :(

Don't worry about the rain on the tractor, they are made to be out in the weather. There are plenty of tractors that have never seen the inside of a garage, barn or shed.

There are two kinds of tractor drivers:

1. Those who have broken something.
2. Those who haven't broken anything YET.

About the only way not to tear something up is not to do much.

As hours/experience increase, the likelihood of this decreases, but is never completely eliminated.

I fretted about which tractor to purchase for a long time, and one small but important factor was whether or not the ROPS would clear the garage door. So the one I pick measures 95 1/2" at the tip of the ROPS, and my door is 95 1/4"...figured that was close enough that i could get it to work, but that i'll need to carefully get into the garage the first time to check it out.

So, what do i do? Take delivery of the tractor, and as I'm driving around the house as happy homeowner, i go roaring into the garage like a moron. Only when i get off and see the ROPS standing proud as a peacock do i realize that i completely skipped the whole 'careful checking' process.

"Whew", i think, "must fit!" So what do i do? Back 'er out without a care, hook the header over the opening and tear off some trim at the top of the garage. I'm sure there's a good explanation why it works one way and not the other, but it didn't matter, I just sat there and shook my head for a bit.

Yes it sucks bad, but don't beat yourself up over it too much. Maybe this thread will make you feel better:

Glad no one was hurt. Zillions of tractors of all types are stored outdoors their entire lives. A few nights in the weather will work out fine.

Well, we got it back in after we removed the door. Now there is a tarp in its place.

Don't feel bad, I've ran into the edge of my door opening a couple of times with my end loader, I forget how far out it sticks out in front of the tractor. I've also torn up some siding on our garage by getting to close.

I drove my 3720 into my eave about 5 minutes after getting on it for the first time. Rolled back the diamond plate canopy and a few hundred in damages to the house roof.

Yeah, the FEL bucket really sticks out far and swings wide and can do a lot of damage to the side of a shed or garage (or wife's car). Put a tooth bar on the bucket and it can REALLY do some damage...er, or so I've heard.

Iron has no conscience! I've hit my truck twice (FEL once and box blade once), the top of the barn door with the ROPS FIVE, countem, Five times.

Oh well, it's all good in the end, nothing but my pride hurt really.

Sorry to hear about the damage and expense, nobody needs this after buying a new machine.

My tractors have never spent a night inside yet. The oldest one is about 36 years old and it may never live inside. While I am building a new shop to house everything next month I had to store the multitude of tools inside instead of the tractors.

This is the second thread that I know of this year where tractors and sheds have duked it out.

We dream about all the good the tractor can do for us yet we rarely think that ANYTHING could possibly go wrong.!!

There are good days and there are bad days.

Hang in there. Maybe next time you'll be lucky and it will only be the wood pile that you knock over.:D

Now I feel a little bit better-when you do a boo boo, it usually feels like you are the only one dumb enough to do (fill in the blank)!

No one has mentioned pallet forks yet. Did you know they stick out in front of your tractor???

(don't ask how I know...)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You'll do something even worse later on and this will become no big deal. At least that's my SOP.

Well, to make you feel better yet, I'll tell you about MY boo boo.

About 20 years ago I cut raked and square baled my meadow several times a year. Did it all myself with my Ford 3000. Not even any help for raking. I also had to keep my pastures shred and was working a full time job on top of it.

One Labor Day weekend I took a day of vacation and cut my hay on Friday, then shred all day Saturday. My nieces had come to see us so after shredding until dark I went in and played cards or something until late with my kids, wife and nieces. I got up early the next morning to fuel my tractor and I was completely exhausted, but had no choice but to start getting ready to rake and bale as soon as it was dry enough.

My farm truck was up on jack stands in my shop with the rear end out of it. It was on jackstands at all four corners with the rear bumper at the back door of the shop. In front of the truck was my car in the other end of the shop only a foot or two from the truck. My field fuel tank was in the back of the truck and the only way to fuel the tractor was to pull it right up within a few inches of the back of the truck so the hose would reach the tractor tank.

I fueled up the tractor and started it up and in my stupor of exhaustion put the tractor in a forward gear instead of reverse. I eased out the clutch and it went forward just enough to knock the truck off the jackstands. It fell forward into my car. Think about that; I used my tractor to knock my truck into my car...... Luckily it just barely clipped the front license plate on my car. The truck wasn't hurt and the tractor wasn't hurt. The floor of the shop probably took the worst of it, but I have yet to see any cracks in it.

Even though my family members were all asleep, half of them came running out to see what the noise was. I was very lucky that the only thing really hurt was my pride.

Things happen!
