I needed to quickly squirt oil on some machinery but all I had was a quart oil bottle with a normal plastic cap. I just poked a hole in the top with a big nail, squirted the oil oil and then cut a stub end off a wooden chopstick from lunch to plug the hole.

It worked so well I've used that method for several years and adapted the same procedure to pour smaller amounts of salad dressing out of bottle that lacks a squirt tip. Plug that with a chopstick as well.

In either case, a drilled hole is better.

When I put water in the golf cart batteries there are 18 or 24 1 inch holes that need a controlled fill. I use an awl to poke a hole in the cap of many plastic water bottles (16oz) and just point and squeeze. Using a flashlight with the other hand helps illuminate the water level in the hole. This makes quick and easy work of the task.

I worry that straightening up my strap mess will lead to an addiction for neatness and order in all things.
They are cool ideas though. What the hell Im going for it. Ya know what they say. First ones free.
