Tipping when picking up groceries

Hey All,

We've never shopped online for groceries for pickup before. It's a pretty lazy Sunday here at our house and we're considering trying it today.

Do any of you use the grocery pickup services offered? We're considering Walmart.

The main question I have is, do you tip the associate that brings the groceries to your car? Do you tip by percentage? Our bill will be around $250.00.

I think Walmart do not allow employees to take tips. I tried ones to give $5 to a Tire dep boy for mounting my sxs stubborn tires, he said they are not allowed. I don't know about other departments

I don’t tip when I pick up orders from BJ’s. I don’t tip much beyond restaurants, or maybe a tow truck driver. Or something like appliance delivery.

None of the stores around here have personal shopper services. I would appreciate a service that shopped and delivered groceries to my house. I would definitely tip for that kind of service. None of the services - example, Uber - will come out as far as my place.

Well, we picked up our groceries from Walmart. I tried to tip the guy that loaded the groceries into our suv but he nervously looked around and said, "I'm not actually allowed to receive tips". I thanked him and he said, "it's OK, I'm working a lot of overtime".

Overall the experience was OK and we learned a few things. They will be out of things, just like when you enter the store, we'll get our order in earlier next time and schedule pickup for a future date.

This time we placed our order at about 2pm and picked it up at 7:30pm.

My wife uses the Walmart online ordering and curbside pickup service every week, have never tipped them. It works OK. They seem to substitute some things that you wouldn't think would be out of stock. What I think is it may be a way to get rid of alternate brand stock approaching expiration. You can reject the substitutions. They will also ask if you want them to ship you out of stock items. What they don't tell you is you have to pay for the shipping. It usually arrives the next day.

I order stuff from Sam's Club online and have it shipped to us as well, especially coffee pods, chips, and paper goods. Cheaper than buying it at Walmart. With Sam's Plus membership I get free shipping.

Walmart has an online ordering system where you order and pay. You drive into the Walmart parking lot and they bring the orders to your vehicle. Nobody will deliver to my address either, but we have used the online ordering service before.

From what I gather, if you are tipping when picking up groceries you need more ballast or a larger tractor. I understand being on level ground also helps during the lift. I'm not certain of all the yees and yaws, but it's on the interwebs so it has to be true.
