If I plan to do a lot of mowing with my new B2920, which tire will give me the better ride. Ie. more comfortable for long bouts on the tractor cutting grass, the turfs or R-4's

Thanx, Todd

ask yourself this, which tire is the quietest on asphalt? That will tell you the smoothest ride on grass esp, in the dryest part of the season.

My vote goes to turfs.

I'm with radioman on this..I have turfs and have never needed anything else. I use the FEL and BH quite in some questionable situations in addition to alot of mowing...no regrets at all.

They actually go pretty well in the snow as I found out for the first time after owning it for 6 years.

I agree and for softest ride turfs are it. I also did snow for the first time in 6 years of ownership with turfs and was really surprised. I do turfs on mowing tractors and R/I4's on dedicated FEL/BH tractor. Also with tyrfs on front of BX you will have a strong likelyhood of becoming a member of the "one front tire leaks air" club. Just found out yesterday that my nephew that bought his BX2360 last year is a member of the club.

I have a set of loaded R4s and a set of unloaded turfs.
I try to use the turfs only for the the dry mowing season summer and the R4s for snow removal and Spring/Fall field work.
As with many of the "best laid plans of men" it doesn't always work out that way and a neighbor asks me to rototil or dig a stump when I have the turfs on.

They're pretty good, maybe not so good that I would give up the loaded R4s, but as I read your post - DEFINITELY go for the turfs.

Tip;
Just as you close the deal with the turfs ask the dealer if they have had to take off the tires that the tractor came from the factory with.
You MIGHT be able to get them thrown back in for cheap (relatively cheap).
I don't know the B2920, but would guess most of them come through wearing R4s.

Turfs (loaded) here too. Completely satisfied with all applications and needs.

Rather than tires concentrate on getting the mowing area smooth.

You guys with turfs, are you able to use your fel and tillers and box blades under most circumstances without problems or do u find you need the traction of the R-4's? I'm referring to medium duty work at most,

I have Turfs and R/I4's both. Turfs on BX2660 FEL MMM and R/I4's on BX25 FEL BH. I use FEL, tiller (today), boxblade, Ferguson overseeder, RatchetRake all on BX2660 with turfs and no problems with traction and used it for the first time in six years on snow this year with turfs with no traction problems.

They're not THAT different ...unless/until they load up with something like clay or packed snow.
Rubber is rubber, dirt is dirt, etc.
Tread pattern doesn't make much difference UNTIL it gets filled in.
That will happen earlier in clay or heavy loam, especially when wet.
My tiller is forward rotating, so I don't need a whole lot of traction, it contributes a bit of push.
Box blade ? I don't remember having used it with the turfs on, but I don't use it as a a dozer anyway.
I do a lot of loosening with just the rippers before trying to move much dirt with it anyway, but I don't think it would be an issue.

An aside; I came across some "Olde Tyme" plowing data recently.
Just after WW I a dyno was developed to measure horse pull and tractive effort required for various farm implements.
It seems that a 14 inch single bottom plow run 6 inches deep in grass takes a 500 lb pull.
How much that relates to the weight of a draft horse (1/3 maybe, though BIG drafts weigh a lot more) and how much a horse can dig in is interesting.
There is an odd figure in there of the pull required to pull a 26,000 lbs "cart" that might be the origin of the CDL limit (-:
i.e. how many horses a teamster could handle and still be "safe".

Anyway, I think that all came to mind because weight on the ground is usually what limits draw bar pull and you can get a lot more ballast in a turf or R4 than you can get in an R1 Ag tire.

I have no experience with turf tires on tractors. Only R1's and R4's. The R4's, in my opinion, are a lot stiffer sidewall and ride a lot worse than R1's.

I have turfs and the rear are loaded. I use a FEL to move dirt and gravel with no problem. I have moved snow with the FEL and a 5' rear blade with no problem. I use a 5' rotor tiller in my garden with no problem. I even pull a 1 row cultivator with 12" hillers on it and the turfs work great. I am not saying they are as good on traction as R4s but with the 4x4 engaged they work just fine for me.

Until you have tried all three, you really can't know which is "best". Based on personal experience, what one "thinks" works best for him/her might change when trying a different type.
