His ice fishing post crossed my mind yesterday too.

The temperature had risen to the point where I was trying to decide whether to remove my thermal sweatshirt under my tee. It was right there where with it was a tad warm but without it might be a little cool. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Low sixties here today, seventy by Thursday, Texas, four seasons in a day. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I should invest in some thermal underwear someday. I've never needed it. Had some when I was a kid, but it just made me too hot. One pair of wool socks, one pair of fruit of the looms(boxers or briefs, your choice), one lose sweatshirt, one pair of jeans. Maybe a pair of sweatpants if it is under 15. One good pair of coveralls(like carharts). A good pair of waterproof boots with felt liners(lose fitting). And one very old, raggedy parka with a snorkel hood from Sears that I've had since the '70's. A pair of mittens if the wind picks up. A lose hat with face mask if it gets to 0. Maybe a secone hat if it gets to -5 or -10.

I think the parka is the key. It is windproof and covers from my mid thigh all the way up over my head. The snorkel hood makes a tunnel to warm the air before I breath it, but tends to fog the glasses. I can sit with my back to the wind for a few hours before I have to start sipping on the hot tea or cider(just switched from cold pop to hot drinks last year).

I really enjoy the cold. Once you feel the hair in your nose start to freeze, it is usually a little below zero. That's the time I like best. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You're a sick puppy.

I hit that megamillion lottery tonight I'll never see it below forty or above eighty ever again. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Man you'd hate it here now. Today's going to be about seventy. Tomorrow we're looking at the middle seventies.

But us tuff guys can take it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You and Bird let me know how you made out by the end of the day, OK? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif It's 17 this morning but it is supposed to get in the 40s for the next 2-3 days /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

On another note, I just got bifocals last night and I hate them. My guess is I'll hate them when it gets warm, too. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif They are the invisible line type, the ones that you can't tell if they are bifocals. I can't see out my rear view mirrors or see my instrument panel without taking my eyes completely off the road. Completely dangerous and completely worthless. Reminds me of being drunk and looking through fish eye lens. Very narrow field of view. They said things might be a little blurry out of the sides, but this is awful. I have to turn my head and look directly at things, then tilt my head up and down to find the focus spot. No peripheral vision at all. AAARRGH!!!!

Any of you guys have bifocals with the split line? Can you drive with them?

How's this tractor related??? I can't operate my tractor with these glasses, that's how. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Maybe I'll go stick my head in the snow for a while and cool off. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

David, it was a lousy day for golf if you go by my score; /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif but a great day if you go by the weather. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif It was 39 to 42 this morning and 67 to 70 this afternoon and sunny.

And I think it takes everyone awhile to adjust to bifocals, but I've gotten used to them. I have the kind with the visible line in them, and it does make a difference as to where they put that line. In my case, when I glance at the instrument panel, I'm looking through the lower part and when I'm looking at the road, I'm looking through the top part. However, I still pass the eye test when I renew my drivers license without glasses and only wear them about half the time, expecially watching TV or driving at night. And I have another pair of glasses for sitting here looking a computer screen because I don't want to have to tilt my head as far back as I would need to if I had the bifocals on.

I can't verify for sure of the location, but a friend sent this picture claiming to be from north of Syracuse NY in the snow belt around Oswego. They received over 6 feet in one week with more the following week due to lake effect snows. The county has a whole fleet of these airport style snowblowers for the heavy drifting areas. Imagine 6 feet of light fluffy snow getting blown around with winds off of Lake Ontario, the drifts get huge!
